I was having a conversatoin with a new friend yesterday, when the topic of using name brand products versus store brand came up. I buy store brands of items that really can't be screwed up, but on some things I won't touch it if it's not a trusted name brand. My friend said she thought that was a little stuck up. For instance for my kids I've never thought of buying anything but Huggies diapers and Johnson&Johnson body care. So moms, my question is; What items do you buy store brand and what items do you buy that absolutley have to be from a trusted name brand? If you don't mind saying...does your decision some times come down to financial restraint?

I pretty much buy name brands. When it comes to food, more often the taste is compromised when you go generic.
I also go for the trusted brands when it comes to diapers, wipes, baby care items, etc...
* I do use White Cloud toilet paper from Wal-mart.
* After about 6 months I used the Parent's Choice formula. It is 1/2 th price of Enfamil!!!

I agree. Somethings are just different. I will buy store brand if I really can't pass up the deal. Or if I can't find my name brand in what I'm looking for. Canned veggies and soups, are always name brand in my house. I won't touch canned soup if it's not Progresso or Campbell's. The generic just tastes different.
I'm a savvy shopper and will only buy name brand if I have a coupon that beats the store brand price. Certain things I actually prefer the store brand over.
For example:
Microwave popcorn: I prefer the Market Pantry brand from Target. I buy the Light Butter Popcorn and it is 88 cents for a 4 package box. I had a problem with a bag that broke and when I called to tell the company guess who makes the Target popcorn? Act II - - that's right. They sent me a coupon to use on Act II popcorn (free box) and I went to the store and actually GASPED. A box of Act II popcorn (the same flavor I buy at Target) is over $3 per box!!! I was stunned.
Diapers: I have three children and let me tell you that I have used every diaper out there on the market. With my son (who is now almost 8 years old) I used the White Cloud brand from Walmart. They have since stopped making that brand - - I think it's Parent's Choice now. But I actually prefer the diapers from Target. They are cheaper - - $13.69 for the box - - and I found they run a little big so they can be in one size longer before having to switch them.
The only thing I refuse to buy store brand is my soda. I have to have Coke Zero or Diet Dr. Pepper. Nothing else even comes close.

There are things I will not sacrifice price over brand such as cheese, toilet paper, certian cleaning supplies, feamle stuff and some others. It is not that we are stuck up, it is we have gained trust in something and KNOW it works, why mess with that? Now, the reason I choose store brand on the rest does have to do with finances and the fact that if I buy name brand normally I can buy more and that cuts down on my trips to the grocery.
When my grandson is born, we are going to try SAMS diapers first, but it may be that we go back to Huggies just like I used for my daughter, who knows.
