My boyfriend got a hernia in december and got it operated in january.  They took the sack (or whatever) out and sent it for testing.  The test can back abnormal and he had to have a ct scan and a colonoscopy.  The results for that came back and they said they found mucinen (spelling) and now he has to have his appendix out.  I'm terrified because before he got the tests done one of his coworker looked into what mucinen was.  And he found (from his mom who is in the medical field) that it's a really rare form of cancer.  I'm so scared.  If anyone has been through this or has any info please let me know. Also I'm not sure if we should get a second opinion or not, I mean it's major surgery, I think that we should talk to someone else before he gets it done.

Did you mean mucin?

As far as surgery to remove appendix.  That isn't too major.  Of course anytime one is "put under" or to sleep it can be life threatening.  The procedure takes a whole 20 mins.  Usually done laproscopic.

If it something dealing with cancer always get a 2nd opinion.
