Here’s my situation, Sierra has the following people helping her out

  1. Occupational therapy
  2. Speech therapy
  3. Nutritionist
  4. Allergist
  5. Doctor
  6. Occupational therapist further up

My daughter Sierra has the following issues

  1. Allergies to eggs, milk and strawberries.
  2. weight issues due to allergies and high metabolism
  3. speech delay and slight motor delay

Now my problem is that the therapist comes to the house to help Sierra out with sounds and other developmental problems. (All three therapists, but they don’t visit her all at the same time). And I go to the doctors offices for her other problems.

I’m okay with it but my husband is beginning not to be okay with it because he’s afraid that the state will take Sierra away because of her issues. Which upsets me because his parents are the same way… being involved with the state most of my life, I know that they’re trying to help her.

Sierra’s well fed, diapered, loved, well taken care of, she’s not being abused at all, and she’s not being neglected at all either.

Everyone says that she’s healthy and we’re working together to see what we can do and we’re working with the doctors, allergist, therapist and the nutritionist to make sure that we know what’s going on with sierra to help her feel better.

But my husband doesn’t see it that way she doesn’t want her to have anymore help only because Sierra needs to have another auditory test because they’re worried about her hearing but the hearing test will be more in depth….

I just need advice at this point. I want to know what’s wrong with sierra and help her but my husband doesn’t see it that way….Has anyone been in this same situation?

Am I being selfish for helping my daughter?

Please no bashing and no negative stuff please..... Thank you.

Mar. 7, 2008 at 8:15 PM The state is not going to take your kids away.  I have worked with dss before and they dont take children out of a home unless they absolutely have to and let me tell you there have been cases where the child should have been taken out a long time ago and they are still with their parents.  Though these children were neglected, starved and abused.  No the people that are working with your child have stepped in to help their is no reason for your child to be taken.

Mar. 7, 2008 at 8:16 PM Sounds like you are a Mom doing her very best for her daughter, the state doesn't take away children from parents because of delays or allergies. They take them away for abuse and neglect. I would think if you weren't seeking help for her he would be concerned. Do what is best for your girl.
