This is reposted because I posted it late last night.
My DH and I got in a conversation about the changes that are happening in the US due to the "protection" of the people. This all started because my city of residence is attempting to pass a "Social Hosting Ordinance" (homeowners can be arrested if minors drink on their property). This is a post that I made on another message board about it:
Where will it end - when the government has taken away all of our rights and liberties... what's next? I mean, we can only buy flags that were made in the US, transfats have been outlawed, the smoking ban (which is moving further and further). As they continue to slowly and surely remove the rights and priviledges granted to us by the Constitution, it simply means that our form of government has changed to one word - tyranny. I really hope that the sheeple will wake up and realize that our "elected officials" have become tyrannical by continuing to force this type of legislation on us, taking away our rights and priviledges in the name of "protecting us".
I know smoking is bad for me, however, I have that right, that priviledge to fire up a cigarette, pipe or cigar. I HAVE THAT RIGHT!
Heck, eat right, exercise, die anyway. Death comes for us all.
What has happened to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
If our government continues on this path, they have become the very monster they revolted against in 1776. Our forefathers are turning over in their graves.
Is it time for a second revolution? Maybe, maybe not. We are granted with one power, we can go to our elected officials to say "this is wrong and this is why". This time we need to begin with words. I mean the "Declaration of Independence" states: "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such government and provide new guards for their future security." Therefore we have the responsibility to take action when our government intentionally forces us to give up the rights and priviledges granted to us in this document, in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. In laymans terms, if we have to take up arms against our own government, we not only have the right, we have the DUTY to do so if it comes to that. I am not fomenting rebellion, I am not saying that we need another revolution, but that is one right that I will protect to the bitter end, even if it means taking up a gun to defend that right. Our forefathers mean for us to be happy and free. This is something that we are losing on a daily basis because we are not listening or getting involved. We need to tell our elected officials that they are not listening to their constituents. We need to use our voting power to remove those officials who do not listen to our wants, our needs, our desires. That is the political process in a nutshell.
Remember, the signers of the Declaration of Independence committed High Treason by signing that document.
Comments:
We caught "Enemy of the State" on tv the other day. The whole thing was about wire tapping, surveilance, etc. I looked at my husband and said, omg, that is what that whole privacy act thing was about...but this movie came out a long time ago. And he said, yeah, kinda scary, huh.
Although I live in a state that just passed a smoking ban (that is, in restaurants and workplaces) I realize this could become much worse.....
You sound like me!
It's refreshing to see someone that actually understands and sees where this country is going.

AMEN!
Sad thing is, I think that's why so many politicians are for gun control. They don't want us to revolt for the sake of our freedom.
It's scary that the book 1984 makes me think that is exactly what we have in store, at this rate.
