On March 2nd I worked all day. I got home at 1030pm completely exhausted. I sat down to pay some bills and get my bank deposit in order (I work for tips so weekly bank trips are a must) and realized that I had reached my savings goal (there are no maternity benefits or paid leave where I work). I was so excited and relieved. I went to bed at 1115pm more relaxed than I had been in months.
I woke up thinking that I had to go to the bathroom. I tried. No luck. My attempts to go back to sleep failed miserably. At 4am I called my mom and told her that I thought I was in labor. She came over, I took a shower, and we were off to the hospital.
I arrived at the hospital at 6am. In triage, the nurse informed me that I was dilated to 6 and had very little time left to get an epidural. They rushed me off to L&D. I got my epidural and 30 minutes later (about the time I couldn't feel anything), it was time to push. I peed on the nurse, which I thought was hilarious. Or maybe I just had to laugh to keep from being embarrassed. But it was funny. I pushed and pushed. I got seriously frusterated because my contractions were slowing down and my pushing was not effective at all. The doctor decided to use the vacuum (an idea I was not at all crazy about) and he was out in 2 minutes.
Lucas Bennett Brock was born on March 3, 2008 at 9:28am. He weighed 7lbs 2oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. He has dark blond hair and blue eyes. He is absolutely perfect.
I don't think I could be much happier! I've only had him for a week, but I am already so in love...
