My kids have ear infections ALL THE TIME and I am at my wits end with them! Luckily Jaydin handles his infections pretty well and tells me "mommy, I have an ear infection" and that signals me to take him to the ped to get it taken care of. Kenna on the other hand doesnt. She is just so fussy when she has ear infections and it makes me want to pull my hair out because there is nothing that I can do to help her.
Lets start off with Jaydin's history. He only had 3 infections prior to his first bday but since the last one wouldnt go away even after 2 rounds of anti-biotics, anti-biotics injections and a hospitalization for IV meds, his ENT decided to do tubes 2 weeks after his first bday (Oct 05) His body started to reject the tubes like foreign objects and tried to expell them beginning in June 06. After 5 ear infections in 2 months the ENT took out that set of tubes and put in a second set during the same surgery on Aug 23, 2006. Although that set, like the first, didnt decrease the amount of infections, it helped us treat them better. We were able to treat him with ear drops instead of putting anti-biotics into his little tummy. Well, in July 07 his body started rejecting those tubes too and the ENT took them out on Sept 27th. He said that if Jaydin got another ear infection during the following 12 weeks that he would put a 3rd set in. Well... Jaydin got 3 infections during that time and he STILL wouldnt put them in!! So not since Nov it seems like he has had one ear infection after the other. Here is the dates that his ped gave me yesterday and the meds used to treat them...
11/03/07 Augmentin
11/21/07 Augmentin
01/02/08 Augmentin
01/29/08 Augmentin - did not go away so on 02/06/08 he was given Omnicef
02/25/08 Augmentin - his ear infection was so bad that he ruptured his ear drum
And then there is Kenna... I did not nurse Jaydin so I kinda blamed myself for his ear infections. So I made the decision to nurse Kenna and besides the 2 bottles a day she gets at daycare, she is exclusively breastfed but she still continues to get ear infections just as often as Jaydin. She got her first one at 7 weeks and has seemed to constantly have the since. Here is her list of infections since Nov.
11/07/07 Amoxicillin
11/23/07 Augmentin
12/26/07 Omnicef - did not go away so on 01/10/08 she was given Amoxicillin. That did not take it away so on 01/15/08 she was given anti-biotic injections
02/15/08 Augmentin - did not go away so on 02/27/08 she was given Zithromax. That did not take it away so the ped was going to do anti-biotic injections yesterday but I denied them because she is going to the ENT today and I wanted him to see her ears as they are now, not before the injection greatly decreases the infection.
IMO these are WAY too many infections and rounds of anti-biotics for my little kids to have. We are going to the ENT at 10:15 to see about a 3rd set of tubes for Jaydin and a first set for Kenna. Will everybody please keep my princess in your prayers because she is most likely going to need an injection and I just hate doing that to her:(

UGH!!! I would be SOOOO flippin' frustrated & upset, as I know you are. I am curious to know what the ENT says about this. I mean, that is A LOT of infections! & for Jaydin's ears to keep "refusing" the tubes, I dunno. Poor babes, going through all that : (
Keep us updated ... I will say a prayer for Kenna!
HEY...YOU SOUND LIKE ME. MY LITTLE BOY WHICH IS NOW 3 YRS OLD HAD TUBES PUT IN HIS EARS WHEN HE WAS AROUND 12-14 MONTHS. ONE TUBE HAS STILL BEEN IN HIS EAR ALL THIS TIME. JUST SITTING ON THE EAR CANAL NOT SERVING ITS PURPOSE. ALL THE DOCTORS KEPT SAYING WHEN I ASK FOR THEM TO TAKE IT OUT, NO WORRY ITS NOT HURTING ANYTHING. ANYWAY..... THEN ABOUT A MONTH AND HALF AGO HE GOT DOUBLE EAR INFECTION AGAIN. DOCTOR PUT HIM ON Amoxicillin THEN HE WENT BACK FOR 2 WEEK FOLLOW -UP , STILL HAD EAR INFECTION SO DR. GIVES HIM Augmentin, THEN GO BACK 2 WEEKS LATER. WELL STILL HE HAS INFECTION. sooooooooooooo..... DOCTOR GIVES HIM Omnicef . BUT THIS TIME HE SET UP A APPT. WITH A ENT DOCTOR . SO NOW I AM WAITING TO TAKE HIM TO THE ENT. ALSO MY LITTLE GIRL HAD A EAR INFECTION LAST WEEK. THEY GAVE HER A INJECTION OF Amoxicillin AND WROTE ME A RX FOR IT TO TAKE HOME TO GIVE HER. SO IT SOUNDS LIKE WE BOTH HAVE HAD THE SAME KIND OF LUCK WITH EAR INFECTIONS WITH OUR KIDDOS. MAYBE BEFORE LONG IT WILL BE WARM WEATHER AND WE WANT HAVE TO WORRY ANYMORE ABOUT IT.
