Last night I was invited and attended a meeting on Glyconutrients. After hearing testimonials from a 3-year dialysis patient now experiencing the beginnings of kidney function (1 in a million per physician), and a couple Type II diabetics, gaining control of their blood sugar levels, I thought I'd pass this emerging natural science along.
What are glyconutrients? Technically known as saccharides, (not like the white stuff we use in baking, etc.), these glyconutrients occur naturally in plants, and eight of them have been identified as essential to optimal human health. Contributing to the diabetes epidemic, due to the poor nutritional quality of our foods, "Glyconutrients have proven to be a critical missing link as dietary intervention." according to Blaine S Purcell, MD, in The Healing Power of 8 Sugars. Saccarides help regulate the immune system, which may improve autoimmune conditions, including type 1 diabetes. Saccarides may also appear to aid the body's ability to control blood sugar, perhaps by their ability to combine proteins and fats to create compounds that allow cells to communicate with each other. The most bio-available form, alpha, as a dietary supplement, will soon be available via independent consultants in the US, after successful results for a number of years in Spain, Phillipines and Mexico.
