Look I am not trying to make this a big debate, I am just trying to vent some feeling I have. This morning I went to an Easter egg hunt at a church. I thought it would be fun for my almost 3 year old. There was a section just for my child's age group. He did a good job waiting and the rules were spelled out for us very clearly-NO PARENT HELPING> I let my son go and he ran and picked up about 7 eggs. He had a great time. What frustrated me is that there are parents and older sibling grabbing eggs left right and center. UHHH it said no helping. We are at an egg hunt for goodness sakes. And then to top it off, the one with the most eggs gets a prize. That would be all well and good if it was played fairly. They were calling out "who got more than 40 eggs?" Give me a break-are you seriously going to tell me that a 3 year old was able to get 40+ eggs on his own in that short of time. My child is not slow, he was picking up eggs and having fun. I just think that this wasn't about having fun, it was about greed.
How churchy is it that they were grabbing and pushing for eggs and not letting the ones who were just there for fun get some. Then they had story time and they started after a few minutes letting me know that we are all sinners, blah, blah, blah... I was outta there . The hypocrisy was too much for me. IF you are going to live as a christian with good fellowship and all that, then don't cheat on a freakin Easter egg hunt. I don't get it.
My child had a great time and was unaffected by any of the things mentioned above, I kept my feelings to myself and put my child first. I celebrated the fact that he went out there and had fun. I celebrated the fact that he was able to wait in line patiently and take his turn. I celebrated that fact that this is not my church....
Happy Easter Everyone.
