Hello everyone. I am new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. I am 25 and a mother of one. I never thought raising a child would be easy but I also never thought that when you reached out for help to agencies in your city they would give you a slap in the face. I truly believe that  the only thing any parent wants for their child is the best, and also to give them what they did not have when growing up. So can someone tell me why in a city that is suppose to have all these resources do they make it so hard for someone to go back to work and find a safe and loving daycare for them to send their child?

Mar. 15, 2007 at 1:07 PM what problems have you had? there is some agency that will give you a list of child care in your area if you provide them with a few zip codes - i'll have to look for it if you need it. where do you live in the city?

Mar. 15, 2007 at 2:15 PM I went down to the ACS office on 16th street and I asked them about getting help locating an open daycare center in the city and also for help with payment and they said because I am not working I half to go signup at the department of labor to get a laber card. The deaprtment of labor told me because I do not have childcare they can't help me with the labor card. I explained to them that I have a job waiting for me but  they would not listen. So since I do not have a labor card, acs won't help me. I am still trying to figure out why I need a labor card and I never needed one to work before. I am from this country.  I live in harlem in zip 10030, but at this point I am willing to put him into a daycare that is in midtown if Ican get in and can afford it. Thanks for the help.

Oh dang i feel you. We are suppose to be the land of opportunity and we (citizen) can not get help. I'm in MI and they make is crazy at the DHS office. If you get cash assistence from the state they require you to do job search..which is cool cause you should work. Lets say you need childcare they claim because your in the program they can speed it up faster. This most recent time it took my worker 3 months after I turned in paperwork to finally reapprove my childcare assitence. Byt then I got laid off so no need. but whenI needed it I couldnt get it. Childcare is so expensive when you are on one budget. For my 6 week Spring/Summer term i paid $2 grand.I max out loans and other resources . have you ever tried calling Uniter Way? I use them alot here when I need a resource :) God Bless.
