My kids have been of WA State welfare since  birth, and so I'm sure they've had some sort of eye exam, but my hubby and I took Leila to her first REAL eye exam today.  She's been having problems with her left eye for sometime now.  It wanders.  Like a chamilions eyes kind of wander, and then it'll snap back into place as soon as she wants to focus on something.

The doctor says it's something she has complete control over.  But the women in David's family have eye problems to the point of lazy eye and blindness in one eye from very young ages, so we had our concerns with Leila's little talent.

It was definitly a relief to know it's not a big deal unless she stops being in control over it.  It's just that she's got one eye that rests way out there instead of lined up with the other, and she may occasionally see two  of things while this happens.

The doc gave us some excersises to do at home if we catch that eye wandering, so we can strengthen those muscles.  Worst case scenario, is if things do progessively get  worse, and if that eye starts hanging out there for several hours of days, surgary is an option to realign the eye.  But that doesn't look like an emidiate concern, and she doesn't need glasses or anything.

She was so cute.  They told her she was very still and well behaived and smart for someone her age.  They'd never seen a little girl so young come in and do so well, all that jazz (which is something we hear a lot of with Leila).  They put eye drops in her eyes to dialate them, and they stung a great deal, she wasn't too happy with it, but remained very grow up about the whole thing.  Took a moment to cry a little, and needed a hug, but regained composure and and didn't whine about it at all.  I was so proud of her.

She got to look at her eyes dialated in a mirror.  She told the technician that the drops made her eyes blue.  Then she told me that the drops made her eyebrows blue.  And insisted that she meants to say eyebrows.  She's a trip.
