I am TRYING to quit smoking. Today has been a bad day - but I am determined to start a new tomorrow and keep trying. How are you doing? What is working or not?

Let's use positive peer pressure - use the comments on this journal to check in every day, week, month - whatever you need. Perhaps "reporting" it may help us think twice before slipping. It's worth a try! Let's all support eachother in trying to quit smoking. You can see you aren't alone!

Answer the question: How are you doing (for quitting) Today?

Mar. 19, 2008 at 7:38 PM I have been smoke free for 4 months now. My husband and I quit cold turkey..yea it was hard, but the day we decided to quit we wrote a list of other things we could b doing besides smoking and carried it with us. on that same list we made reasons why we were quitting. I always guilted myself about how my kids looked up to me and that also helped me not give in...it will get easier,  good luck!

Mar. 19, 2008 at 7:38 PM I used to smoke.   but only 4-6 cigarettes a day, for about 15 years.  ONe day I just quit.  Every time I thought about smoking I just told myself, "Oh yea....  I don't do that anymore".  And that was that.  6 years ago.

I too just recently stopped smoking and it's difficult, but definitely worth it. I can smell and taste things better. I wrote the pros and cons of smoking down and it has helped. I printed and have it hanging on the wall at the office and on my fridge at home. Now if I get cravings, I just read the list to remind myself the benefits of quitting. It will get better.

Good luck!

Ohhhh.....  today has been rough.  I swear I wasn't even really thinking about smoking yesterday until it was right in my face.  (okay, well maybe a couple of times lol)  But today, I've actually been craving cigs.  I've pondered just going out to buy some...  I'm almost afraid to leave the house for any amount of time because it would be so easy to swing into a store for a pack.  *sigh*

The clock is at 19.5 hours right now, and ticking away.  (go clock! go clock!! LOL)

Mar. 20, 2008 at 8:37 PM I used to smoke, for about 17 1/2 years. And in that I prolly tried quitting once each year. The only time I was fairly successful was when I was pregnant, however by the time my babies were around 3 mo old I was back at the puffing. This last time I just went day by day. When that got too hard I took it hour by hour, i remember one day I went min by min lol. It takes alot of time and effort and I am proud to say that I am about 15 months free of ciggs. Now I can't even be around someone smoking them, it REALLY bothers me. It took a long time for the psychological cravings to go away and once in a great while it still rears its ugly head...but it gets easier as time goes by. One thing that I have to say really helped...walking. IF I spent 30 min a day just walking I felt better. It released tension, helped me get to where I could breathe better, and flat out it got me outside enjoying the free time. Dunno if I helped or not but Good Luck to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mar. 20, 2008 at 9:22 PM Today I felt like a smoker. Still, again, whatever. I'm wrapping my brain around tomorrow. I don't have to go anywhere so it should be better because I won't have a chance to get any smokes. My Uncle reminded me that even if I go for three days then slip for a week and then go smoke free for a week - I'm still doing better than if I don't try. So here's to try, try again ... I'm on the gum tomorrow!
