We have finally gotten out of the Research & Development stage and work has actually begun on the family room.

So, the first picture is what my fireplace has looked like since the house was built.

Picture 2 is what it looks like right now. My new fireplace is supposed to be shipped from Texas around April 11th.
Tomorrow, the electrician comes to install new recessed lighting and Thursday a drywall guy will be here to take care of the walls. April 1st, the new sliding glass door should arrive. The new hardwood floors are in boxes in my garage, but they will be the last thing to be installed before the new furniture arrives in May.
Look for new pictures as the project progresses.

Old sliding glass door. Opens right to left.

New slider with French rails. Opens left to right. New trim will be added later.

Before paint.

After new paint. Windows will be getting re-cased and new trim. Will also have crown moulding installed. New hearth to be installed on 4-16 and waiting for fireplace mantle. Hardwood floors will be installed on 4-21.

This shows the new trim and sills around the windows.

These are the new hardwood, hand-scraped natural hickory floors.

This is my new granite hearth. As you can see, the fireplace mantel and legs are still not here. Hopefully they will come this Friday the 25th and they can be installed next week. Furniture is in, but we are trying to wait as long as possible before we pick it up.

So here's a picture of the new fireplace mantle. 3rd time was a charm and we absolutely love it. We will be finishing it off with a gas log insert and really nice glass doors, but since it's summer, we figured there was no rush.

This is a picture of my old couch. My dog thought it would be a good idea to tear it up. She did this to the love seat and the main couch.

This is my new couch. The two ends are motorized recliners and the seats right next to them are manual recliners. It is so comfortable and the dog is not allowed near it.

Here's a picture of the entire room, including the new window shades.
Comments:
I'm pretty frustrated today because the fireplace mantle arrived yesterday and it has a hairline crack running right up the center of it. I've been on the phone and emailing all morning to try and get this fixed. My husband says we are going to proceed as planned with everything else and the mantle will just have to be installed later.
That means that once the painting is done, the hearth can be installed and all the crown moulding and trim can be put in.
We also got notification yesterday that our furniture will be here next Wednesday. (it wasn't supposed to ship until May 1st)
I'm confident all will work out, maybe not when I want it to, but eventually.
Tuesday was a horrible day. I got a phone call telling me that the new mantle came and again it was broken. I swear I went into shock when they gave me the news. I immediately got on the phone to the mantle company and through a series of phone calls made by me and my husband, they shipped a mantle to me yesterday. They are sending it via a special truck that only makes 1 stop before it will be delivered directly to my home. Let's hope that 3 times a charm.
On another note, my family decided on a tile to go between the firebox and the mantle and we will pick that up today.
The furniture came in over a week ago and it is sitting unassembled in the middle of the room.
If all goes well, this project should be completed by May 20th.
