I have three kids ages 7, 9 and 11 and as usual, Easter morning comes with surprise and splendor as the kids search for their Easter goodies left for them.
Well, this morning my 7 year old daughter awakes and immediately searches for the basket of goodies the "Easter Bunny" left for her. After finding it, she comes into the bedroom where I was still sleeping and she quietly taps me on the shoulder..... She says, "Mom, I love you" (in a regular voice)... Then she leans into my ear and whispers.... "Mom, I know that YOU are the Easter Bunny but that is ok.... it will be our little secret... I don't want dad and the boys (her brothers) to find out so this will be just between you and me... You know how excited dad gets when the Easter bunny comes!"
Barely awake I couldn't help but want to laugh and then cry! My youngest child figures this out before my two older children and she isn't worried about herself knowing... she doesn't want to disappoint her dad or her brothers with her newfound knowledge...
We have always talked to our kids about the real reason for Easter and WHY we honor Jesus in so many ways.... I was raised acknowledging and honoring Jesus every day, not just on Christmas and Easter. My husband and I have really tried to teach our children that yes, Easter is a special day, however, everyday is a special day to honor Jesus.
I guess the Easter basket delivery person (ie. "Easter Bunny") was really never fully established just implied. However, I am just reminded again how quickly my kids are growing up and I just wish I could slow down time!
I cherish all of these memories and blessings....
