Very very sad news. Please pray.

A dear friend of mine was killed in a car crash on Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Her mother also died in the crash, and her twin sister was injured, but has been released from the hospital. I was so shocked when I heard the story on the news...they said their names and all I could think was, "No...no no no no...." But, of course, it was true. Here is the news story:

State Police were on the scene for much of the morning at a crash in Hart County that left five people dead.

Police say the crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-65, near the 61 mile marker.

Witnesses say at the time of the crash, it was raining so hard, drivers couldn't see very far in front of them. Police don't know who is at fault, but a semi truck, a pickup truck and a minivan ended up crashing.

Police say the semi was carrying large rolls of steel and when the crash happened, they fell off the truck, crushing the pickup truck. All three people inside that vehicle, including a child were killed.

Two people inside the minivan also died in the crash. Police say a passenger in that vehicle was hurt, but his injuries were not considered to be life threatening. The semi driver was also injured.

I-65 southbound was shut down at around 7:30 CST and reopened at around 11:00 CST.

Kentucky State Police released the names of the victims in the crash late Wednesday afternoon.

49-year-old David McGrath, 52-year-old Madeleine McGrath and 15-year-old Megan McGrath, all of Auburn, Kentucky, were killed in the pick-up truck.

51-year-old Myra Lawson and 22-year-old Cassandra Lawson of Elizabethtown were the two killed in the minivan.

Cassandra's twin sister, Jennifer, was treated and released from Hardin Memorial Hospital

I worked with Cassie for a year, and we were very good friends. I photographed her older sister's wedding, where I had the privilege of meeting the entire Lawson family. If you wanted to see a perfect picture of a happy, loving, close-knit family, they were it, and Cassie's parents treated me as part of the family from the moment I met them. I was quite pregnant at that time, and they bought me a huge basket filled with baby stuff. I can't even imagine how the hearts of their family members have been ripped apart by this horrible tragedy. Cassie was only 22 years old...she was an amazing friend, and a beautiful, intelligent, loving, funny, all around wonderful girl. She had plans to attend the University of Louisville to get her degree in photography. I'd had plans to go out on a shoot with her sometime this summer, and to shoot a modeling portfolio for her. I'm so heartbroken that she's gone...I can't even find the words to express.... Please pray for the family...they've lost a sister/daughter and a mother/wife. They need all the prayers that you're willing to send up during this horrible time. Thank you so much for reading and for your prayers.

Mar. 24, 2008 at 1:19 AM I heard about it. I live in a neighboring county. It was such a horrible accident. So many accidents there on that stretch. Eventually they'll fix I65.....
