Last week I had the boys all week which was up at 6:00; boys here between 6:30 and 7:00; zoo keeper until they went home around 3; run whatever errands we had; feed, bathe, and reclaim the house; fall into bed at 10:00 so that we could start all over. By Thursday the kids (all 5 of them were so tired that they were fighting over who was breathing who's air!! (Seriously! If I heard "don't touch me!" once I heard it 72 times - in an hour!!)
Then Friday right before lunch the garage door opened and my parents walked in. Reinforcements!! I must have looked awful because my mom and dad had lunch with the kids and then beelined for the dollar store for treats and plastic eggs while everybody was down for a nap. They got back and took over entertainment for the afternoon. I think those eggs were hidden at least 7 times over the course of the weekend!! Then it was an evening of dinner and catching up. Much decided to go to bed around 8:30 (normal) but then woke up at 10:30 when everyone else went to bed and wanted to PLAY!! until 2 AM. Guess who was up?!
Saturday we had our normal "secret mission" with Poppie. That would be a Dunkin run to all of you. The kids get up and go with Poppie to get donuts for everyone in thier pjs. I managed to squeeze my walk in hoping it would make me feel a little better. Please keep in mind that this whole time I have no voice and my head feels like I have major water stuck in my ears because my allergies are in full gear!! Oh yeah and I've had 5 hours of sleep! Then my dad helped me fix some stuff around the house and we dawdled and played for a while. Then we packed up a picnic lunch and went to the park for 2 hours. On the way home we picked up a certain little boy's birthday cake and then it was home to tidy up and get ready to party!
My dad did ribs on the grill and we threw together a few other sides and then had a really nice little dinner with the neighbors and Mo's friend Mia and her mom. Then it was the moment that Tuck had been waiting for. We have a chaise couch in our living room and it was COVERED!! The clothes were "great." Typical boy reaction. The pillow and pillow case were "neat." The fireman hat from Mo was "cool!" But man, that 4 foot fire truck with the extendable ladder was sent from heaven! "It's just Per-sect!!" There isn't a "fire" any where to be found in this house. I turned on a burner to make tea water yesterday only to have the fire truck sweep into the kitchen and "shoot" water at the stove!! Then it was off to the cake (with the fire truck under his chair!) and then play ourselves to bed. Munch stayed up for the whole smash. She even practiced for her own cake in a few weeks (I'll post pics later). She didn't go to bed until 9:30 and I thought that we would make it. Everyone got settled about 10:30 and I was taking my contacts out when I heard the first scream. My mom tried, God bless her. But it just wasn't happenin'. At 2 I finally got to go to sleep.
At 7 yesterdaymorning I started the wake up call for everyone so that we could get 5 adults and 3 children ready for church. What a circus. Daddy even went with us this week. My dad (he's my hero ya know!) put lunch in the oven before we left so we came home from church to the aroma of pot roast and potatoes and carrots. Wow was it good! I don't know if it was so wonderful because it was wonderful or if it was because I didn't have to cook it! But it was good!! We sat in the sun for a while and the next thing I knew it was 3 and I was waking up from a nap while my parents packed Mo and Tuck up for the park. They flew kites and played until 5 and then made a pit stop at Old McDonald's for ice cream on the way home. After dinner it was time for "Don't Get the Witch" (that's Old Maid to teh rest of us) and some books and snuggles. I had 2 very tired wee people last night when it was bed time. And the high point of my night? Munch decided to sleep!!
Mom woke me up at 4:30 to tell me they were getting on the road. And just like that they are gone. And my blues have set in. I keep telling myself that we are going to see them in 2 short months but I'm still sad. I don't know what I'm going to say to the kids when they get up. Mom tried to explain to them that they had to go home today but I think the kids thought they were going to be here when they got up. At least it's just us today. The boys will be back tomorrow but for today we can just enjoy one another. Daddy has to go to work but there may be some pancakes with cream before he goes.
Isn't it funny? You spend your teen years just itching to get away from home and then you get out and you make your own life and become a parent. Now when I get overwhelmed with being a prent all I want is to go home!I know I'm very lucky to have the relationship with my parents that I have. A lot of people (my hubby included ) don't.
It's only 2 months. I can do that.

It sounds absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to be home with family all the time...I understand the blues after they leave. I think that was part of my lack of motivation last week. I just wanted to be back in FL, lol!
Enjoy today with the kiddos and take it easy! LOVE YA!
I'm glad you had a good weekend. I know how you feel. I get to see my parents every weekend and they drive me close to batty at times (like this weekend and their get-rich-quick scheme) but when we lived away it drove me crazy. Guys don't understand at all though. We haven't seen Bill's parents in almost 2 years and he acts like he couldn't care less.

That's just so lovely! I love the 72 times " don't touch me", the pjs dunkin' run, the pot roast and potato! You are so right, you did have a wonderful week! However, i am not so sure you want to do it again anytime soon!
Thanks for sharing.
I have to do the dunkin run in pjs with my boys in June when we visit in Boston for 3 weeks.
