My son took a paci adn was bottlefed. My first dd would never take a paci. She was breastfed, and actually quite often used me as a paci. My daughter now takes a paci for naps and at bedtime, and it's made life a LOT easier on me as far as getting her to sleep (she nurses only as well, neither daughter would ever take a bottle.) I'm sure that there are things that I could do differently so that I wouldn't have had problems with my first, but if I had another I would encourage the paci again. It's just personal preference. I don't see a problem at all with them, and now that it's been linked to lessen the chances of SIDS when used at night, I'm totally for it. I believe that they'll have a lifetime to learn to self sooth, so while they are babies I'll allow anything for them to be happy.
But if you've gone this far, it's possible that he won't take one anyways, so it's not a big deal. And I don't think that it really helps with teething at all, so that's not a concern really. If things are going ok for you now, you might as well just stick with it. :)
He reminded me of an alcoholic, just the sight of a paci and he would break down crying. I'm not talking about a tantrum, I mean truly heartfelt crying. He needed that stupid thing and it was almost like weening him off of drugs. I know he was an extreme case of paci baby, but we did not want to take the chance with baby #2 going through the same thing.
As far as teething goes we had a coupl tools to get us through.
#1 - Of course meds (orajel, teething tablets, tylenol, etc...)
#2 - This was my and babies fav... I bought fresh washcloths from walmart and dampened them with water or apple juice, anything clear so as not to stain clothing, and placed them in a plastic baggy and put them in the freezer. In about an hour or two you have a nice numbing, safe, natural remedy for teething.
Hope these helped.
