So I can stop answering this question OVER AND OVER again
Hilary and Obama are surprisingly similar when it comes to their 'plans' for the country. Why do *I* choose Barack?
1) So far, he has ran a fairly clean campaign. He doesn't name call. He is polite, centered and calm even when faced with things that are unsettling. I think the ability to be cool and collected under fire is an important one. I feel McCain would be too quick to push the WAR button and I don't think Hillary would stay calm and rational.
2) Obama BELIEVES in the change he is talking about. Call it silly -but you asked for MY reasons. The man LOOKS sincere. Not used car salesman "This is not a lemon" sincere. He really looks sincere. He believes in his plan.
3) He wants to eliminate taxes for seniors who make less than 50K a year so they can afford to live.
4) He wants a nationwide healthcare plan. As an RN, I see people who we send home from the hospital knowing full well they can't afford their medications. Here is a snippet of his plan from cnn.com.
Would create a national health insurance program for individuals who do not have employer-provided health care and who do not qualify for other existing federal programs. Allows individuals to choose between the new public insurance program or from among private insurance plans that meet certain coverage standards. Requires employers who do not provide health coverage for employees to pay into the national health insurance program. Does not mandate individual coverage for all Americans, but requires coverage for all children. Allows individuals below age 25 to be covered through their parents' plans. Cost estimated between $50 billion and $65 billion, to be paid for by eliminating Bush tax cuts for those earning over $250,000.
5) He may be 'inexperienced' if you are speaking in terms of YEARS, but he has authored and coauthored MORE pieces of legislation than Hilary. I like the fact that he isn't 'Old Politics'. People who have been around for a while OWE other people.
6) Like someone else said - grassroots campaign. NO MONEY from special interest groups. So, he doesn't owe the NRA or PLANNED PARENTHOOD any 'special favors' when he is in office.
7) I love, love, LOVE his plan to give college students $4,000 toward their tuition IN EXCHANGE for volunteer work or agreeing to work in an area that has a great need after graduation. This is amazing to me. It helps EVERYONE.
8) HE has not made race an issue until forced to do so. He doesn't campaign as 'the black man' like Rev. Jesse Jackson did. He campaigns as a person. Not a white person. Not a black person. But a person. Because he IS biracial, he DOES see the concerns of both races. He does recognize issues we haven't worked through. Because of his speech in Philly - people are TALKING about racial issues in a way they haven't in years. We can not move past our old scars if we don't talk about them.
When he made the speech in Philly - -everyone expected him to come out and simply defend his Rev. What he did amazed me. He was being crucified by the media. He should have been defensive. He should have said "Don't judge me for the words that come out of another man's mouth." I would have. Instead, he gave the most thought provoking, inspiring speech on racism that our country has heard in years. I was moved to tears. He once again took a negative situation and made it a positive one.
9) You have to go with your gut. My gut says he is the man. I have never been so excited about an election. I truly believe he is the change we need.
10) ok.. cheesy.. last but not least... he breathes HOPE. I was dismayed at Hillary's 3 AM ad. I have had ENOUGH of the government trying to terrorize us. I'm tired of them using our fears from 9/11 to promote themselves. Not Obama. He doesn't try to 'scare us' into voting for him like McCain and Hillary do. He wants us to think and hope.
