Last week my son's preschool had a field trip into Seattle (across the 520 floating bridge) to go the the natural history museum.  I managed to get Grandma to watch baby sister so I could take my son and a nice but rather shy classmate, who was not entirely sure he wanted to get into my car AT ALL.  I persuaded him that if he got in he could follow the 'computer which tracks us on an outer space satellite' (GPS) and tell me how close we were to our destination.  This got him from hysterical at the curb into the actual vehicle.

After a few minutes he calmed down and I was attempting to make small talk (no small feat with two perschool boys in the back!).  Conversation went something like this:

Mommy: 'So, do I remember your Mom saying you have a brother?'

Friend (pauses): 'Well,I have one where *I* am the big brother, and one where *he* is the big brother.'

Son (ebulliently): 'I don't have ANY brothers but I have a SISTER!  Because she is a girrrrrl.'

Friend, wide-eyed: 'You don't have ANY brothers?  at all?'

Son (now a bit dejected): 'No, just my sister.'

Friend, having an aha! moment: 'Well, you know, Jesus is your brother! (pauses) 'And, I think also your Father?!?'

Son, delighted: "I know! We have Him at our church!  And when you DIE you get to SEE him (claps hands excitedly)!"

Friend, also delighted, "I know!  They told us that at OUR church!"

And they chatted happily all the way to the museum, as I prayed in gratitude for being a Mom.

This is an adorable story. You know kids ask a thousand questions about everything, but God. It's like they just accept what they've been taught & do not try to complicate it like we adults do.
