Sadly, I saw 1st hand how easy it is for a baby/toddler to drown. I have heard thousands of stories about babies/toddlers drowning in bathtubs, and I wonder how a parent could let this happen. Well, this morning I learned.
I was running my bathwater and sitting on the lid of the toilet (next to my tub) playing a game on my laptop. My 19 month old son came in the bathroom and was trying to throw some of his bath toys into my water. Of course, he then wants to grab them back and leaned into the tub to try and reach them. Fortunantly, I was next to him. Because then, he toppled from the waist up into the tub. He put his hands in front of him, so essentially, he was leaning over the side of the tub with his bottom half still out. His hands were on the inside of the tub (like he was trying to do a hand stand) the water was up to his arms and only inches from his face and it was still running! I pulled him out. He was fine, and began laughing.
But my lesson..... it can happen so quickly! He is not a small baby, and ccan walk and run. But, if I had not been in the bathroom with the water running, he could have drowned. Please ladies..... never leave your water running while your toddlers, or babies are awake. I usually run my water and close the door. But, I discovered this morning, he can now open the door.
