For those that don't know: Earth day is April 22nd. (Yay!) I'm so excited! There is a local Earth Day festival near us, and I am trying to get my family to join me. I'm thinking there is something simple we can all do for Earth Day. It's sort of like Earth Hour that just happened in March.  My idea is for everyone to turn off their power for an hour on Earth Day. At 8:00 pm. They had great success for the actual event that took place in March, as many global cities took part. Though I doubt any cities would be willing to do this, I think it would be great if my fellow cafemom members and I do this. If you would like anymore information about the actual Earth Hour Event, you can go to this website: www.earthhour.org

I know this might be hard for some to do, especially if you are going to be out of town, working, or whatever. However, for those of us that can do this, this is a small thing to do, yet it will have an even bigger impact. Think about how much we would be helping out our planet. It will aslo be a chance to get your family doing things together, without there being any interference from technology. Maybe light some candles, and play some board games, or go outside and look at the stars to see which ones you can identify (even constellations), or have ice cream sundaes by candlelight. You could also make a list (you and yourfamily together) of ways that you can help the environment in your everyday life.

Thanks!

Apr. 7, 2008 at 6:53 PM I have my power (lights) turned off most of the time. I come home from work, do what I need to do before sunset and the don't bother turning lights on in the evening. I am seriously thinking of buying light bulb that are about 10 or even 15 watts....less if I can find them. I don't need much light.
