How to Find the Right Home Based Business
So how many home based business opportunities have you heard about?
Tons, right?
So how do you choose? Which ones are scams and which ones are legitimate? There is no real way to get rich quick (except winning the lottery)....so anything that promises great wealth instantly with minimal work is most likely a scam. Of course, you will always find the select few that have been able to capitalize on an opportunity in a short time frame, but that is certainly NOT the norm.
When deciding whether or not a home based business is for you, it is important to answer the following questions:
First and foremost ask yourself WHY? Why do you want to work from home?
Is it to spend more time with the family? To stay home and raise your children while still contributing financially? Is is because you do not have transportation to and from a job? Do you want to work in your pajamas? Or is it simply because you want your business so you can make your own schedule, report to yourself only and benefit from some great tax deductions? Are you trying to leave Corporate America? Downsized, laid off or retired? Just looking for a career change? So again, ask WHY? WHY? WHY?
Second, WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
In order to be successful with your home based business, you must believe in the company and/or its products. Then YOUR business more appealing to YOU which means success! If you began a home based business simply on the promises of fame and fortune, you will likely become disappointed and as a result you will not be successful. Slow and steady growth is the way to gain permanent success.
No matter what your passion, you will probably be able to find a home based business with your passion as a focus. A good next step however would be to learn the history of the company before jumping in with both feet! For example, how long has the company been in business? What is their reputation? (Remember, the internet is a great tool for researching companies, but like anything you will find the good, the bad and the ugly.) Be sure to read reports by reputable sources when doing your research, not boards designed specifically for irritated customers who, due to one lousy experience and too much time on their hands have made it their mission to trash the company in every online forum.
You MUST remain OPEN MINDED in your research. Listen to the details to several different opportunities and make an INFORMED DECISION. Find the one that resonates with you. It is easy to be skeptical with so many people banging down your door but the reality is, if you block everyone out, you may miss that one opportunity that will turn your dreams into reality. Be wary of the companies that sell a bunch of hype and fluff, be sure to weed through all that stuff and get to the "guts" of the business plan.
Ask yourselves and the presenter the following questions...is there a risk? If so, how much risk? What is the initial investment? What do you get for that initial investment? If you leave the company, will you be stuck with a kit full of things you will never again need or use? Is the business recession proof? Is/are the product(s) something people NEED on a daily basis or is/are they merely an accessory item. When the economy is slow, people are more likely to cut out the extras from their life...although the company may resonate with you and the products seem fantastic, will the average family have room in their budget for this expense?
Remember, a home based is like any other business. In order to be successful and grow your business, you will need work it! So I caution you, if you are lazy and simply looking for an easy path, then perhaps becoming a business owner is not the proper choice. To be successful, you MUST be motivated, optimistic, hardworking and detail oriented. Then prepare to reap the rewards of your hard work.
