Sunday we left for Maryland for our first family vacation. It took us 11 to drive to Fort Meade WOW is that a big place. We stayed with family on base. I think we infected the entire base with our colds, but all and all it was a pretty good time.

The only hard part was when we went to the National Aquarium, they don’t allow strollers!  It’s a 4 or 5 hours event I had to carry my 25 pound 9 month old. Luckily I put my hip hammock into the back of the van before leaving, but that’s 25 pounds for 5 hours w/ a diaper bag! They rent germ ridden backpacks which are coming apart and look unsafe and filthy looking front carriers which my child is to large to carry.
They use escalators and moving sidewalks which are unsafe for toddlers, the elderly and mothers carrying heavy loads. I almost fell down the escalator trying to get my toddler to come with me.
And God forbid you try and use an elevator those are only for people in wheelchairs, not for people like my mother in law how is scared to death of escalators or children in wet pants.
Plus, the bathrooms are not clearly marked so my 3 year old wet herself while we were searching.

If you ever visit the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, do it when your children are teenagers – it is NOT kid friendly.

Jul. 10, 2008 at 10:13 PM Wow!!  I've lived in Baltimore all my life and maybe been to the aquarium once when I was a kid.  the strict rules don't suprise me, this area has really been ripped of good old family values and traditions since the upper-class started moving in.  Not that me or anyone else I grew up with is lower class, we just bought the houses before they were going for 400,000 dollars.  I am sorry you couldn't enjoy your trip, if you come back here again, maybe the zoo would be a better place to take your 3 yr old :)  I haven't been there in years either though, I'm sure they don't ban strollers though.
