There was a great article in People about a father who lost his baby girl when a liscensed child care provider shook her and caused massive brain damage.
Instead of giving up he started doing research and found that over 1,400 children a year are affected and many of those who cause the harm cannot be convicted because prosecutors cannot prove intent. He start fighting and got Cynthia's Law passed. It makes it a felony in New York State to cause injury-regardless of intent- by "shaking, slamming or throwing" a child under 5 and the penalty in up to 7 years in prison.
He is now working to get Federal Legislation and counseling for parents.
I feel this is a cause many moms on Cafe Mom will feel strongly about so I created a petition for us to sign and forward to him to help get the legislation passed.
If every mom on here signed it would be a powerful statement and show of support. Every signature is important and if it helps one baby it is worth it.

Thanks Daisy.  I appreciate you forwarding this to me.  I am always filling out petitions and doing what I can to help the environment, children and animals.  I will pass this on to everyone I know.
