I usually look out the window when my son Jayden is about to go on the bus and I noticed him patting a very cute kitten- probably no more than about 6 or 7 months old. She was so cute- white with black markings- she looked like a little cow-lol. Anyhow- I asked Jayden where she came from. He said - I don't know but I do know it doesn't belong to our downstairs neighbors. The cat was meowing its head off and was very affectionate- not scared at all. I asked the woman downstairs how long it had been here and she said it was under her car all night- OMG- I was not impressed this poor cat had been outside all night. I am not in the position to take a cat right now for many reasons but I adore animals and wanted to help in any way possible. I phoned our local SPCA and they gave my number to animal control. They called me back and said they would come get her.  I said she seems quite hungry and has sore looking ears and gunk in her eyes. He said he would be out to my place within an hour. In the meantime, I got her some milk and one of Jayden's sweatshirts to sleep on- and that is what she did- she got comfy and went to sleep. I didn't have a litter box in the house so I sat outside with her until the animal control officer came to make sure she didn't get hit by a car or anything. My parents' cat almost got eaten by a fox yesterday in broad daylight so I wasn't taking any chances with this dear little cat. She did something really funny before the officer got here- she went down on the driveway ( which is gravel) and started digging a hole. I thought maybe she was making a spot to lay down- no- she needed to make a spot to have a poop-lmao- it is one of the funniest and cutest things I have ever seen. Animals are so smart! He finally arrived and talked to me for about 15 minutes. What a nice guy! He said her ears looked ok but she was extremely emeciated- god love her heart. He immediately got a can of food from the truck and she gobbled it up in a flash- he then put it in the carrier so she would go into  it-lol.He told me sometimes they don't take stray cats, but I live right by a highway and she is so emeciated that he was definitely gonna take her. I was so relieved- I told him i love animals and wanted to make sure she was ok so I sat outside with her for the hour it took him to get there. It was the least I could do to make sure she was safe. He said they are gonna nurse her back to health and do everything they can to get her adopted. I signed a relinquishment form stating I wasn't the owner, etc. and he took her ( carrier and all) and drove away. I was kind of sad to see her go but I hope she finds a good home. I know I did all I could to help her and very well saved her life. I am pretty proud of myself right about now. Good Karma for me yes- lol- but the feeling that I helped a dear little animal is all the thanks I need. God bless her!

Apr. 14, 2008 at 9:49 PM It's best that you gave this little one up for adoption because once exposed to the outside conditions, they tend to want it all the time...no matter how you try to domestic them.  You done good kid....Way to Go!

That was so sweet of you to take care of the kitty. My husband and I just adopted a male cat that was abused really bad. We love him so much and he's so good with our son. I think he's just as spoiled as Tateum is LOL

We need more people like you in this world my dear!

love

May. 25, 2008 at 12:47 PM This stray kitty was very fortunate to see you and know you  cared enough to give it hopefully a good home. I also rescued a stray kitty although i dont know how old this cutey kitty was it was a year ago now and i had already four cats and i called animal control in SF.I kept him with me over the weekend in my cat playpen i bought at Petco. I feed my stray cats.I recently had two cats die this year, the first kat was a young one of 7  and a half yrs old who died siddenly within a half hour while i was at work, the other kitty i had died of old age of 18 and a half years old. I am happy you called animal control being you live near the highway. Horay for animal control. I hope they took it to a Second Chance Rescue center as we have here in SIOUX fALLS.  I know it is different in the Humane Society where they the animal control takes theyre stray animals.
