I have to take a typing test for a job I'm applying for.  I type well when I don't have to think about it.  I can type somewhere around 55 WPM when I'm just typing what I want to type.  Most people my age can because we live in the generation of electronics.  I'm not saying my typing will be spell checked or without error, but I can type the required WPM speed for the job.  But I've been so busy doing other things, and I'm seldomly on the computer anymore, that I have to practice a little to get my typing speed up.  Especially, when I am typing something I'm reading.  Speak, and I can type it.  If I'm thinking it, and then typing it, no problem.  But ask me to read something, and type it, I suck.  I lose my place to often, or I skip punctuation marks etc.  And if I have an error and it's not somthing I can go back and correct, I automatically stop to try to correct the mistake, and I have a slower speed as a result.  And that ticks me off!

My point is, I want this job, I need this job badly.  And I'm terrified that I won't get it simply because of this stupid test.  I'd have medical benefits, and make twice as much as my husband with this new job.  Plus, I'd be able to pay for my college so I can get out of debt and pay my college in advance without having to worry about it.  It would be full time work, and I miss that.  It would make our lives a zillion times easier to have this job.  AND I MIGHT NOT GET IT BECAUSE OF MY TYPING SPEED!  GRRRRRRR!!!!!

Apr. 16, 2008 at 6:24 PM I can't believe they wouldn't hire you just b/c of that...Typing is something that you can easily increase. They even have practice software you can load on your computer to practice. When I type something that is written I just don't take my eyes of it and let my fingers go. Then afterwords, I'll go back and see if there is any mistake. "Read" it in your head so it is more like your thoughts than something written, if that makes sense. I hope you get the job! Good luck!
