Well...alot of you already know that MEEZ has created an autism awareness signs to add to your animated "you"....(brand new...just as of Thurs 4/17/2008)

This is me....

But this is the "HOW" they came to create the sign....

Backtrack to around January....latenight....I just received my meez newsletter...catching up on all the "new" features...It's sent out by "LucyMeez"....Well me n latenights get into creative thinking....I found that "LucyMeez" has a myspace...Said she didn't use it much but I thought "hey...I have a myspace...Let me find LucyMeez and send her an email" So off to myspace I went...locating LucyMeez and writing an email in which I let her know I happened to be one of the admins for the largest Autism awareness groups on cafemom and that April was Autism Awareness month...And I knew MEEZ supported other causes...would they consider making some form of awareness for cafemom members who had meez on their profiles and in general, for the entire Autism community.

Not expecting a reply, but trying for a shot in the dark...I received an email the very next day back from LucyMeez...who put me in contact with Mayka in marketing. So I emailed Mayka...copied the email from Lucy just to verify I was sent by her... and explained everything all over. Mayka emailed me right back and said she definetely was interested and she would see what they at meez could do....

Things got jumbled up with legal technicalities as far as imaging...what could n could not be used....

Sorry, Heidi,

I don’t want you to think you were forgotten in the scheduling, but doing autism assets became a question we posed directly to our VP of Marketing. (You had three girls in Marketing working on getting autism stuff together for you. ;)) His response:

We absolutely cannot use a trademarked logo without the express permission of the organization. So, no puzzle ribbons, unfortunately.

We can do an “autism awareness” sign. But, it can’t have logos or slogans of the organization.

We’ve gotten slammed with these last-minute ad deals since the end of March (Nike was huge, we were given a week to do Princess, and we have a week to produce 27 Dresses DVD stuff to launch next week.) and really just haven’t had time to create a sign. I’m hoping to still create a sign, but just so you know, we may run into some legibility issues as our Meez assets are pretty small.

What if we made a sign that said “I’m aware of autism.” Instead? It might fit better…

Let me know, I know that given all this lag that’s not much of a consolation. L

Sorry, we’re trying,

I was starting to feel like things weren't gonna happen...Least not this year...too much red tape.....

It was decided a sign could be made, but it had to be limited as to how many words you could fit on the sign. Okay...Sign...Cool....Since anything with puzzle designs were shot down I was expecting just a plain black n white sign...Better than nothing....

Then I clicked on my email on thurs....

(from email)

Sort the animations by “Most Recent.” ;)

As I had mentioned, we had to shorten the phrase on the sign so it could be legible, but at least we got something up!

Right there was a sign...with the Autism Ribbon background!!! I was awestruck!!!!!!

I quickly changed my meez to add the sign...then got a post up on the Autism/Apergers/Pdd-Nos board....I let the other admins know...I changed my profile pic on my myspace...I was jumping for joy!!!!

I was just amazed that not only was I able to contact a company...but they responded...And then "came thru"...even apologized for the sign being simple. I sent them a HUGE!!!! thank you...

(from email)

I’m so glad you approve of the little we were able to do! (“Awareness” is just a tricky, long word – oh, logistics!)

And I'm going to be sending the girls who created this some handmade jewelry as part of that thank you.

But anyone who would like to check out the MEEZ BLOG about the makings of the Autism Awareness Meez Sign...please go here....And Please leave Mayka and the crew @ Meez a THANK YOU!!!!

That is so excellent.  I added it to my meez.  It is nice that they acknowledged autism awareness.  It is a worthy cause as are many other causes.  We don't think we are better than anybody else.  We want acknowledgement for all serious medical problems.  One mom made a kinda mean comment regarding autism awareness and said where is the asthma awareness?  She was just being kinda mean but when she posted that asthma (or maybe ADD) effects 1 in 12, she raised awareness in her own mean spirited way.  Anyways, what I am trying to say is that there are many worthy things to raise awareness for.  We don't want special treatment, we want equal treatment for all diseases.

That's so cool!  You totally rock.  And so do the Meez people.  Congratulations for them being so proactive in this.  Perhaps other companies can follow their stellar example.  : )
