Ive recently read that there are  well-off  people around the world are booking tours of the worlds worst slums. One resident of the one of the slums says (about the tourists) "They want to come take pictures and tell their friends that they have been to the wolds worst slums ."

My first reaction is that  this is almost cruel as if they are making a spectical of these poor people. Like the main attraction is seeing people in complete deprivation.... I was intrigued by the article so I looked up more about it and I read that The tours are supposed to raise awareness and to put pressure on the government for funding, which is good... but i still think it is a total invasion of the residents lives.

What do you think??

Mar. 21, 2007 at 12:05 PM I didnt read anything about any type of charitalbe acts, but my take on what one of the residents said if that most of the tourists are just walking through and taking pictures. I would hope that some of them do donate while they are there.

I could never go to a place like that without at least taking them something

why do people like to watch people suffer?
