Talking Veterans Down From Despair

The following is a link to a NY Times article about a veteran's helpline.  I have a friend that works there as a social worker and feel that it's really important to share this with as many people as possible.  I fear for our veterans but hope their treatment can improve.  It's hard to get help, they mention in the article how some people feel it's like admitting weakness to do so, we need to bust that.

I don't know what I'm saying, having a rough brain week.  I just wanted to share this with you all.  Check it out if you can:

Talking Veterans Down From Despair
By PATRICIA COHEN
A hot line is part of a specialized effort by the Department of Veterans Affairs to reduce suicides among veterans.

"Experts agree that veterans are more likely, perhaps twice as much, to commit suicide as people who have never served in the military."

Here's the hotline number:

 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

These folks work 24/7 fielding calls from desperate people that deserve and need as much help as can humanly be given.  Please feel free to share the link to this article with as many people as you think might benefit.  If people don't know what help is available they can't utilize it, right?

Have a good one!

its true. my brother is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder pretty bad, he admitted it to me a couple of months ago but WOULD NOT tell anyone at work because then they would retire him out and then he would lose his base job. he is due to ship back to iraq this fall. i fear for him. he has been to iraq and afghanistan already garrrrr
