when i was growing up atleast half of the girls my age had names like Jennifer, or Jessica. but i was stuck with Helen. The only other Helen i knew was my Great Aunt, dont get me wrong she is a wonderfull woman, but to a child, she was OLD, so was her name! i hated my name when i was a kid, i swore that i would never do that to my child. i even tryed going by mu middle name Renae for a while. (wich didnt last very long)
as a teen i would think about my future children and what i would name them, all of them were "hippy" names like Rainbow, Sunshine, Rain, ect... the whole time never working with or going to school with another Helen.
flash forward a few years, in our "courtship" and pre baby marriage. my DH has a very traditional name, Richard Alan, and furthermore he is a third (named after father and grandfather) it was at some point in those few years that i realised that our first son would have to carry on that tradition, i wasnt forced into that, i actualy brought it up to DH, at the time we wernt planning ot TTC so it kinda took him off gaurd.
now we have our Wonderfull DS who is just an amaising little boy, named after his family, and we arnt planning on having anymore but we do have names picked out just in case things change
for another boy
William ~my dads name, also the name of one of DH's unkles (second born of that family) Walker~ my maiden name
for a girl
Donna ~ DH's paternal grandma, also the name of my Aunt, Eilleen ~ DH's maternal grandma
All classic family names....as you can see my dream of all the hippy flowery names alas is no longer an option....but thats ok... i will just torture out pets with those.... for example... one of our cats full name "Princess Dizzy Daisy Paisly Puddin' Pie" (just Daisy for short)and when we do eventualy get a dog (when DS is old enough) he will be "A Dog Named Ottoman"
