My daughter turns 10 on Friday and I was thinking of giving her a cell phone.  There are a couple of reasons, number 1) I have a joint account with my brother and he got his own account with his gf yesterday so this leaves me with an extra line thats not being used.  Number 2) I am pretty broke and otherwise wouldnt be able to give her another gift, at least not until pay day on the 5th of may,  anyway...  She does talk alot on the phone and she is responsible, she takes good care of all of her things, makes good grades etc.  On the one hand I think its a good idea and on the other I'm not so sure, 10 is kind of young...  what do you think?

I don't know about this one, girl I gave Jas a cell for her 11th b-day and she kept going over the minutes (thank goodness it was pre-paid) she was not at all responsible, I tried it again after taking the 1st one, and she did it again, never keeping in mind that the main use of the phone was to keep in touch with her parents and other family in the event of an emergency.

If you think she is mature enough, give it a try, but I would lay down a few ground rules first (unfortunately that didn't work for me) It all depends on the kid!
