So I was hoping for good news from the doc...The doc said Katelyn looked 10 times better, not as yellow...He said the results of the Bilirubin screening should be lower...They weren't.  Even he was shocked....Katelyn went from a 16 yesterday to an 18.1 today.  We have to go back Friday to have her checked again...Now I am starting to worry...I was in tears after this appointment today.  I went alone...Daniel took the day off from kids.  He has been staying awake with Katelyn when she is fussy.  I went through this same thing with Haylee.  She was admitted and her level went as high as 23.5.  At 25 they start having seizures and bad things happen...Now I am scared Katelyn is going the same way.  This sucks...I can't help but wonder if there was something I could have done during the pregnancy to prevent this.  Alan didn't get this bad.  I wonder if it had to do with my being outside a lot during his pregnancy as I was preggo mostly through summer with him.  With both my girls I was preggo during the winter....What about something in my diet?  ARGH!  Too many what ifs and too many unknowns!!!!

Apr. 24, 2008 at 12:45 AM Oh hon I feel for you!  My Maddy, who'll be 1 week come Friday!, is going to have to get her levels checked tomarrow too.  She got jaundiced because she was a little early and had trouble latching on when my milk came in, but looks better now that theengorgement is down.  Idk if you bf or not but most bf  babies do get it because their fluids get low and their little kidneys and livers arent yet fully working--Its nothing you've done wrong!  If your pediatrician hasn't mentioned it already try ten minutes in the sun or in front of a sunny window in a diaper daily and a teaspoon or two of water, yes they can drink from a spoon this early just do it a little at a time, with every other feeding.  I wish you the best of luck in treatment and please knowthat you've done nothing wrong.  You could also ask doc for infat vitamins w/ vitamin D, it helps I've been told.

Oh Kira that sucks!!!

Both my first and my last babies were jaundiced-our stay at the hospital after they were born was extended 2-3 more days so they could 'sunbathe'...lol  It was horrible-I had the guilty feelings too...but Elise was born in April and Sam was born in August, and there isnt anything YOU could have done...Elise was 3 days late and Sam was a week early...so it doesnt have anything to do with due dates...Sam couldnt latch on bc of being tongue tied so we went straight to formula(which they said helped flush it through faster)  Try putting her in front of a sunny window or in some indirect sunlight...both would help a little...I hope it all works out for both of you;.l know it just Sucks when somethings wrong and you cant fix it!!
