My daughter Jordan who is 14 now, was a very sick girl when she was 5 years old. She would have sever pain in her back, legs and stomache and extremely high fevers some times as high as 105.0. I would take her to all kinds of doctors who said either she was faking it, or I was the type of mother who wished my child sick, or that she was starting her menstral cycle. They said anything they could say to not have to look into what the problem was, I took her to family doctors, pediatric doctors, specialist, until finally one day when she was 8 years old I finally found a pediatric doctor who listened to me and examined my daughter extensively. Apon exam he saw nothing other than a high temp to explain what she was complaining of. Therefore, he sent us home with instructions for me to return her immediatly when the sypmtons first start , so I took her home and the next morning it started all over again ( it would come and go, could be the next day, could be 2 days ,could be a week) but anyhow, I took her directly to him, who then sent her for a sono gram, thats when the bad news hit.

Once the doctor got the results he called us into his office, he drew a diagram of Jordans left kidney. He said that she had what was called Grade 4 (sever) Hydronephrosis. Which in english is that her urethra was pinched which would not allow the kidney to empty the urine to the bladder. OK, So he  sent us to Rochester Strongs Childrens Hospital. We arrived there after a 4 hour road trip to meet with a Pediatric Urolagist Dr Hulbert. He was wonderful with Jordan, explained everything to her, and to us and said that she needed surgery immediately.

Well it turned out that Jordans problem was worse than they thought, the poor girl had so many surgeries, and had to have a tube stuck threw her back so that her urine could drain into a bag, because the urethra was just not opening up, it didnt matter if the doctors cut out the bad spot and put it back together using the good parts. So this bag was to help her be free from extreme pain. With this bag, Jordan was not allowed to do anything, she was bed ridden for well over a year. There was such a high risk that something or someone could pull that tube and tear her kidney and injure her further. So she was home schooled from 3rd to 5th grade. She had numerous surgeries after that tube was placed in her kidney, in total she had 14 operations to try and correct this birth defect, that SHOULD have been found while she was still in the womb. (Which is what we were told by the pediatric urolagist.) Nothing seem to be fixing this poor babies kidney function, So during the 14th surgery, Dr Hulbert called the waiting room where her father and I waited numerous times, and he told me that Jordan's kidney had died, it withered away to nothing. At that moment it was time to make the decission to either leave the kidney and see how she did, or take the chance that removing it would end her suffering and hope  that her right kidney could handle the task of removing ALL of her urine. I did not see any alternative. If we left the bad kidney in we would have lost her to sever infection. So her father and I made the decission to have them to remove it. I hoped and prayed the hole 18 hours she was on the operating table that day that I made the right decission.

Once the surgery was complete, the doctors came out to speak with my husband and I, and said that they took the kidney, and that she is in the recovery room. While the doctor was talking to use the phone rang and it was the recovery room, Jordan was having trouble with her heart. Her heart rate was in the 180's which is extremely high for a 10 year old girl. They gave her all kinds of medication to see if it would slow the heart rate, and nothing would work, they told us that if they couldnt get her heart rate to slow down, that she would probably die of a heart attack. Well, that was UNEXCUSABLE to her father and I, we did everything we could for them to get the best of the best in there for her to see if ANYONE could fix it! I sat on the bed with her still  unconsious, and held her, telling her that she was my hero, my best friend, and my daughter, that I would always love her and for her to never forget that, and told her that she must fight with all her might to stay here with mom. I started to cry and layed my head on hers, and at that moment she work up, her heart rate went back to the normal range, and she was stable.

To this day, my daughter Jordan is still my hero. I tell her if any other person would have dealt with what she did they probably would have died. It took so much strength for her to have 14 surgeries and to fight the way she did at the end of the last surgery.

Jordan is now a very HEALTHY 14 year old girl, who was told back when the kidney was removed that she would never regain the strength she would need to play sports, or participate in gym class due to her being bed ridden for so long, they thought that her muscles had declined so much that she wouldnt regain use of them. Well as time went on , I worked with Jordan using her leg muscles, and arm muscles, then to the back muscles ( we had to wait to do that back last because of her huge incession to heal) Now I am very proud and honored to say that she has been playing sports since she was in 7th grade. She is now in 9th grade, playing volleyball, soccer, softball and basketball and manages to stay on the honor roll. She is a very good student. She is currently on the girls JV Softball team and is the captain. She plans to go to Tenessee College.

She has over come so many things in her life, that NO child should ever have to endure.

For that Jordan is forever and always my hero.

This is something special that I made for Jordan,

I love you forever & always my darling daughter

Apr. 24, 2008 at 9:01 PM Well, she certainly is a hero, and you mom are the strengh that kept her going, you are a hero also, and your daughter was unnecesarilly suffering because of the stupidity of the medical profession.

We as parents should always pay attention, and insist that our children are taken seriously, and get second opinions about our children from other doctors, because if you had not been insisting, the outcome would have been very hard.

I hope and pray that all the mothers in the world can read this, and be aware of what your Jordan went thru, and not let go if a child continues to complaint and continues to be sick.

GOD BLESS YOU BOTH, AND KEEP YOU WELL FROM NOW AND FOR EVER.

like some of the others, i too am wiping away the tears...i can certainly see why you call jordon your hero! she put up quite the fight to come thru the surgery and then to struggle to get where she is today! she's my hero, too, after reading how strong she is!! but, ronney, i have to say after reading the story, that you, too, are my hero!..because i can see it was a "TEAM EFFORT" that got your jordan thru all that and to be the healthy, active young lady she is today!...she must have such a strength inside her to endure and triumph over all she did...but, without the momma she has i dont think she could have come as far..it was the two of you together , as a team, that helped her fully regain the strength in her muscles that the doctors told you she never would...and i'm sure God was added into that "team" of yours~~and what a wonderful team you all made together...i'm so thankful to God that he saved your little girl and that she had such a wonderful momma to help fight the doctors and then thru the surgery and recovery and rehabilition!!...i know the love a mom has for a daughter cause i too have a daughter...i'm so thankful you still have yours , too, ronney!!! luv ya, dee dee
