Saw a pacifier post (in one of the twins groups) and thought I'd finally get around to sharing this.  I had heard about this a LONG time ago and have kept it in the back of my mind until I could see if it works.  Our twins are 7 wks old and I've been trying this and it really  does work.  Now mind you sometimes they're crying and just want held or coddled or whatever so this isn't the 100% of the time answer but I'd say 90% of the time it works for us.  So far I can figure out what's needed and can say that a pacifier has barely been needed.  I have one for each babe so that in the instances where we need it we have it, but they're generally just laying in the corner collecting dust.  YAY!!  I didn't have to buy anything, just used what I could find online.  GOOD LUCK!!!!
