Venting about Doctors

Do doctors not have spots reserved for emergencies any more? Why can an established patient not get an appointment now, when they are sick and need to be seen? I can not hear out of my left ear, major sinus drainage and a bad headache, even dizzy so...um can I wait until June 2nd to be seen...excuse me but no!

Lucky for me my oncologist is nice and calls in stuff for me or I would be going to the ER I am sure at some point in the next day or so.

ARGG!!

Even when you can get in to the doctors office I end up only getting to see the doc's ass/ or the NP never the real doctor anymore. But when I go feeling like I am dying they still have to run EVERYTHING by the doctor and it would just vbe easier if he would come by the room for 5 stinking minutes, it would save us both time and me the feeling of wanting to punch someone.

Unbelievable!  I manage a doctor's office, and have been in the field for 11+ years.  When you can't be seen for urgent or acute matters, it's usually the staff who's saying no.  Seldom have I seen a doctor turn away a sick patient.  Case in point, right now there are several viruses causing sinus pain, cough, body aches and offices are being bombarded with calls from ailing patients.  Unfortunately, the staff doesn't feel like working harder, or later, to accomodate these patients.

I have a policy in my office to treat patients as though I would want myself or my family treated.  If we triple book, it's with the understanding that my staff and doctor are here to care for the patients.  It's our job!  I make sure the patient is also aware that we are fully booked, but are willing to work them in as long as they know they will have a wait once arriving!

Next time I would ask to speak with your doctor, and if he/she doesn't have the time to speak with you... then they obviously don't really take their oath of healing very seriously!  Then I'd get a new doctor!

Sadly, that seems to be the way anymore with the majority of Doctors,at least around here it does. I miss my old Doctor very much. Every winter I would end up with Bronchitis and an ear infection or upper respiratory infection. I'd call him and explain the symptoms and he'd say you want me to order your regular arsenal? I'd tell him yes and all I would have to do is go to the drug store and pick it up. Sadly, he retired and I miss him oh so very much.

On that note I did find a wonderful D.O and I love her she is great to. She takes me right away if I really have an issue and I actually see her after her assistant weighs me and blood pressure, the basics.

Anyhow, I hope you get to feeling better soon. I deal with Sinus infections quite often and your equilibrium being off is horrible at the very least. Been there done that. Good luck!
