I was going back through some of the old daily journal topics and found one that asked: What five things would you like to do/accomplish in the next five years. It intrigued me. I got to thinking about it and, really, my 'dreams' haven't changed all that much. They may have evolved a little but for the most part it appears that I still yearn for the same things I always have. This could be looked at as both positive and negative~ but I'll not go there for now. Below is my list. What would be YOUR five things in five years?
1. I would really love to own our own home again at some point within the next five years. At this point I would be perfectly okay with renting again for awhile (as it would be more space for us and for my poor mom and step-dad), but ultimately I would love to have a house of our own again. It's just different to clean a house that belongs to you. It's different to mow a lawn that belongs to you. It's different to hang pictures on the walls and pic out curtains or furniture in a house that belongs to you. I got a taste of having something of our 'own' and that will be very hard to replace.
2. I desparately want to travel (with the family) out of the country. Europe would be ideal, of course. I'm sure that's no surprise to anyone who really knows me. It's a life-long dream of mine to travel to Scotland/Ireland/England. I would love to go to Morocco, South Africa or Israel someday. We shall see. I always keep this in my list of goals/plans. We WILL make it someday.
3. I am really trying to educate myself on world affairs AND local politics (the local part is actually harder, believe it or not). Because I have become so interested in politics, social/humanitarian issues and world affairs I really really want to become 'involved' in the process. I am looking into different seminars/classes on activism. I am thinking of joining Amnesty International. I want to contact the Innocence Project and see if they have any volunteer positions available for laypeople such as myself. I want to become an active participant in the fight for prisoner's rights and to abolish the death penalty. I would love to get involved with political campaigning.
4. I really need (and sort of want) to get back into the 'regular' workforce. I have been out of the mainstream for several years and I think it's time to learn how to socialize again *lol*. After working for my dad for about five years (a real job, but not a social one) I switched gears and started working from home so that I could be home for the kids and whatnot. All of the kids are getting older and now it's time to move forward with my own life. I am scared shitless! It needs to be done. Ultimately I want to jump back into things as a small business owner, but I don't see that it's a possibility at this point. I will need to work and save money so that I can, eventually, buy my own place.
5. We need to repair our credit. It's pretty much impossible in the current economic climate. Do I really need any explanation for this one?
