wtf is up with this:
hubby has had a condition called hyperparathyroidism since 1982. they have made him the military pincushion and granted him medical leave because they had no idea what elevated calcium meant. we have been in the saga since 2000 and he has had three exploratories to find four glands the size of peas.
we have since been though every test known to man and the only research and solution to his problem is to get them removed but they have to FIND them first. how is it that someone can be cured of a BRAIN ANEURYSM (his mother--and TWO at that), but they can't find four peas?!
i can understand my plight though (hydrocephalus due to a dandy walker cyst) and why they cant cure me or even try. i would wind up like Terri Schiavo. Besides, mine's a gene thing and they have only scratched the surface in that department.
BUT all the guys up here in MI and AR and WI have tried looking and either don't know what they are looking for or don't have the right equipment/know how to use it. Well, unless they can pull off a miracle with the overgrown arteriogram, Vet. Admin. is going to pay for his trip to FL., to see the doc who has the 98.6 percent success rate for the exact procedure he needs.
sorry for the whining.....comments/questions welcome. chicka:)

Hi Chicka
I think you are doing the right thing going to see Dr Norman in Florida and am very glad that the VA is going to pay for it. I have researched all over the net since I have the same problem and he seems like the only person who knows what he is talking about and definitely has the most experience with parathyroid problems/surgery. He has the best scanning equipment and if he cannot resolve the problem no one can but I believe he will. And after your hubby is better you have to let me know how the experience went. I don't have much in the way of insurance and am a big chicken anyway so I have been trying some other things but we each do what we must.
auntiegill---he has had the MRI; they cut him in peices! i am looking elsewhere if i can for other ideas. i really dont relish the idea of coughing up two grand for a consultation; as it is we have to request the scans labs and everything else; he wont even SHOW them to us to prove he cant find them. Personally I dont believe in this quack, but we will give him one more shot; literally or otherwise. then i gets mean.
