Summer is long overdue and I'm ready for the warmth of everlastng sunshine, the scent of line dried clothes, the stickiness of melting popcicles and ice ceam cones, and the tartness of fresh berries. Winter blues have melted away into spring's promise but it's the warmth of the sun that I am looking forward to the most. The kids will all be out of school and in the parks. Campgrounds will be full of families and friends with coolers and campfires and jars for catching fireflies.
As precious as the time of infancy is, I am eagerly awaiting Madeline's growth. Right now she's so small and fragile, just barely five pounds. I can't wait to see her gain a little weight and fill out with baby fat and sweet nursing smiles. As the summer months come to pass so will her days of brand new but with the change will come new milestones and first times to anticipate and celebrate. The greatest joy in parenting is not in the birth of a baby but the growth of a child.
Summertime is family time for us. It's a time of catching up on all the moments of togetherness that we've missed in the chaos of the winter travel and the spring cleaning. We visit with relatives, camp out, play baseball, take nature walks and just get out and enjoy the weather and each other. My sister is supposed to be coming to visit us next month and I'm so excited because it will be our first visit from her since we've moved last summer.
