I was recently diagnosed as being depressed by my family practice doctor. I knew I was depressed when I went in but I didn't know if the doctor would think so. I thought he was an OB/GYN because I found him online and his father was an OB/GYN that died in 2005 and he's still in the system and I guess this happens all the time to him. I couldn't change Birth Controls or anything while I was there because he didn't even carry most of the kinds of birth control and that's how we realized the mistake. But I did continue to discuss the depression symptoms with him. He felt that I was depressed and prescribed me prozac.

What I want to know is would this be PPD or just depression? Does it matter which it is?

The way I think of it is that PPD is a short term thing that can be treated but you won't have to be treated for the rest of your life. Regular depression seems more long term to me.

First I wanted to say how sorry I am about how people treated you on the forum about what you feed your little girl. People are so frickin rude.

Now, here's my question for you. Have you had a blood test to test for Hypothyriodism? I have it as well as depression and the symptoms are very similar. Hypothyroidism is also one of the most undiagnosed diseases in women our age. It's very hard to deal with having a new baby or a young child and having these feelings. Trust me I know. There are moments when I just get so mad at my son for crying. And then I feel like crap for getting mad. It's part of my disease and I hate it. Unfortunately, there's no cure. If you have hypothroidism you'll have it the rest of your life you'll have to be medicated for the rest of your life and it can have a lot of bad effects on your health. Including having a stroke. So my suggestion is to get that looked into. As far as I know hair loss is not a symptom of any form of depression but it most definately is for Hypothyroidism. Good Luck HOn!
