so my blood type is o- and my husbands is o+... i just found out that this could be potentially bad for my baby. the articles i read said if it is your first pregnancy then everything should be fine. however, i have had a miscarriage in the past and am now super worried that my blood might have made up antibodies to attack the baby. i can't get ahold of my dr. and have tried like 3 times. i am nervous and hope that payton is not being attacked!! any suggestions or reassurances??

May. 7, 2008 at 3:31 PM it is a question for your doctor, so relax, and just keep trying to get a hold of him....I don't think you have anything to worry about, but its a real good question that a physician should answer

My mom had to have the needle for that when she was pregnant for me. If you are unsure, go to outpatients and get a second opinion. I am 0+ so I don't need that, but you do need the needle to protect your baby. Good luck!

May. 7, 2008 at 3:34 PM I also am O-.as long as you get the shot at about 28 weeks of preg. you should have nothing to worry about.i have two boys and each time i had to get the shot in my hip so during delivery nothing like that would happen.so make sure your dr gives it to you.sorry cant remember the name.just ask your dr.if you ever get ahold of him.

May. 7, 2008 at 3:35 PM  I have B- blood my husband has A+ with both my pregnancies they gave me a shot to keep my antibodies from attacking the baby's. That's probably what they will do with you. I know you get one while you a pregnant in the hip and I'm pretty sure you get another one after the baby is born( if I remember correctly). Don't worry. It'll be ok.

don fret. the shot is called Rogam (sp) and you get one @ 28 weeks and one right after the baby is born. i didn't know i was RH neg (i am A-) until i was already preggers. it is nothing big. don't fret. all will be fine. make sure to talk to your doc about the shot and of course your concerns. you will be fine and so will the baby.

(my mom had all of her kids (10) w/o ever getting the rogam shot and she is also A-, but she also had 3 miscarriages)

also, the only reason you will get a shot AFTER the baby is born is if the baby is a positive blood type, if it is negative like you, then you wont need one. and it is called Rhogam

 here is a website.

I also tested positive and nothing actually came out of it...sometimes like people said you get the shot, but just work with your doctor and all will be fine!
