I'm the first one up.  I've made the coffee and cleaned the kitchen.  I've assessed the rest of the damage that I must tend to so that everyone can have that smooth-running week and clean house that they take for granted.  In about a half-hour, they'll start getting up out of those sheets that I'll be washing later.  They think they're going to surprise me with breakfast in bed; but there's two things they don't know: 1) I get up before them EVERY day; and 2) I haven't been to the grocery store yet, so there's no eggs and no milk.

Yesterday, my 13-year-old centeroftheuniverse rode her bike about a mile to the store to get me flowers and a card.  She chose this two-foot long vase and I can't imagine how she got it home.  Some of the petals broke off of the lily, but she was still so proud of her accomplishment.  I'm sitting in the quiet, sipping coffee and the broken lily sticking out of the two-foot vase makes me smile.  So -- I guess it's my day after all.

Happy "Mother's" Day (wink) to all my lady friends!
