I want to leave a legacy.

This past week as Mother's Day approached I began to reflect on my 13 years as a mom.  I have not had a paid job since my first child was born.  I have dedicated my time to my family and my kids.  I volunteer a lot at the kids' schools and in my community.  There have been a few awards and accolades along the way, but it is not like getting a paycheck every week, that is for sure.  In a way it is much better though.  Sure it's easy for people to overlook what I do, but at a regular job even though you are awarded monetarily, there is not that much in the way of pats on the back.  Your job is what is expected of you.  The same can be said of my job, it's just what is expected of me.  The rewards aren't something that can be measured in dollars and cents.  Sometimes we have to wait years to see the results of our labors.  This can be said of motherhood across the board whether we work outside the home or not, we are all full time mothers.

I don't want to waste a single moment of my kids lives wishing it away.  It is easy in the chaos of life to just wish that this stage or that stage would end.  If you do that you will wake up one day and wonder where life passed you by.  I have to make a concerted effort to life in the moment.

I want to leave a legacy in my children that shows that I gave of myself, not just to them but for the world at large.  I spent my time with them and I also taught them how to serve others through the gift of my time.  What more could I ask for?
