I'm really not much of a collector.  The thing is, I know I could be.  It'd be really easy for me to become a collector of different things.  But, what I end up doing is keeping small collections of things and then stopping.  For example, my husband and I used to collect cool little pewter figurines.  But after we got to a dozen or so and we ran out of space to display them, we stopped.  Then I started collecting glass.  A close friend collected Depression glass, and I really liked one of the patterns that I found, so I looked on Ebay and at some glass shows and bought a few unique pieces of Depression glass.  And then there was a kind of glass from the 40's/50's/60's called Capri (kind of a blue/turquoise like color) that I started collecting.  I went on a big Ebay kick for a while until I ran out of storage space for all the pieces I had.  So I stopped there too.

I guess you could say I collect books.  That's one thing that I do have lots of and continue to get more.  There's not a specific book or genre, but because I am in the book business and I go to the Booksellers Convention each year, I do add to my collection considerably each year!  (But I am also selling off parts of my "collection" as part of my business--especially the books I know I will never have time to read--or will likely not have an interest in reading).  After all, I'm running out of shelf space for all the books!  ;-)  (are you sensing a theme here?)  ;-)

I purchase Disney Pins on occasion.  And I have a nice collection.  But I'm not a collector, by my definition, at least.  I'm not a pin trader, and I don't feel compelled to get specific ones just to complete a series.  I buy some that I like, and I buy them for one of my friends who IS a collector, so that's how I kind of got into it--peripherally.  But that's about it.

You could say I collect photographs.  That is, I'm a very avid photographer.  My husband bought me a digital camera on my birthday last year, and I carry it with me whereever I go.  I take pictures of my girls, I take pictures of the flowers in my yard, I take pictures of the clouds, the sunset, the traffic, things along the highway (when someone else is driving, of course)!  ;-)  pretty much...whatever strikes my fancy.  So I guess I'm a collector of photographs.  Or rather, I collect moments in time that I then capture with my camera.  That's the one thing that I probably won't run out of space collecting--or at least until I've maxed out my hard drive!

Jan. 5, 2007 at 5:53 PM Well, don't stop & run out of space for your books (LOL)!!! Books are always filled with information of some sort. Okay, okay! You got me! It's the information junkie side of me talking here (LOL).I know what you mean. Space seems to always be an issue when I  attempt to collect things as well. (*sigh*) Oh well, can't blame a girl for trying at least.Smile

Jan. 5, 2007 at 9:50 PM Actually, it's not just an issue of space.  I guess I didn't articulate it very well in my post.  It's almost like about the same time I start running out of space, I also start to lose interest.  Kind of like a "OK, I've 'been there and done that' so what's next?" sort of attitude.  That's what happened with the Depression glass and the Capri glass.  And the pewter figurines.  But I don't get that way with books and I doubt I ever will!  :-)

Jan. 14, 2007 at 1:05 AM  I collect a lot of things.  I have a passion for primitives and souvenir spoons are impossible to resist.  I also have magnets all over the house stuck to anything that is metal.
