We just learned today that Skilar will have to repeat the 1st grade next year. Her teacher said that Skilar could go ahead a go to the 2nd grade but would have a hard time there. Her grades where better then the teacher thought they where so that made me happy. Her teacher said that letting her stay that extra year in 1st grade she will blow the lid of next year.  We told Skilar that she will have to go back to the 1st grade and she was like whatever. We will be working with her over the summer on her reading, writing and everything else. We have asked for the same teacher she has this year unless her teacher goes to teach the 2nd grade. So pray she stays in the 1st grade until Skilar moves on to the 2nd grade.

Jul. 21, 2008 at 1:26 PM My son Zack is in the same situation.  At first I thought about homeschooling him, to try to get him caught up so he could go on to 3rd next year, but he's not worried at all about it, and because of finances his daddy wants him to go to ps.  I do know that we won't be getting the same teacher though, but this may be good, maybe it was a mismatch in learning/ teaching style even though I was crazy about his teacher this year.  We'll see.

My oldest daughter repeated 2nd grade and it ended up being ok however I had asked several times for her to be tested for a learning disability it was not until 4th grade that we got an ld diagnosis and now she gets extra help and a little extra time. She is now an honor roll student and doing great. She still does all the same work her friends do and is in the same class but she gets pulled out for reteach and preteach for difficult concepts.  She also gets to go to a different room for tests. This has helped her alot. Good luck to you.
