We decided yesterday that Nora is done with her uh-oh (her pacifier).  She only uses it at nap and bedtime now so when she took a nap yesterday we didn't allow her to have it.  She was not a happy camper and cried and screamed for 10 minutes before giving up and going to sleep. She woke up happy and fine.

Bedtime she was so tired but wanted her uh-oh.  She kept yelling for it until I went in there to talk to her.  We got out some her stuffed animals and talked about her being a big girl now (she turned 2 last month) and how uh-ohs were for babies.  She finally calmed down and I covered her up and left.

She was quiet for about 10 minutes then started screaming again.  I went in there thinking she had realized again that she didn't have her uh-oh but that wasn't the problem.  She suddenly didn't like the blankets I had put on her.  She has like 6 different blankets/quilts that she uses (each are just big enough to cover her) and the one I put on her was not the one she wanted.  So I got out her frog blanket  (her biggest one--just a piece of fleece).  After that she was fine and went right to sleep.

I think she woke up once in the middle of the night around 1am.  I went to bed at midnight and I vaguely remember hearing crying and talking but I was so out of it I wasn't sure if I was dreaming it or not.  I'm pretty sure she woke up looking for her uh-oh, which isn't unusual.  She wakes up all the time looking for it or for whatever (she is a light sleeper).

She got up this morning at 7 and was happy and fine again and hasn't mentioned her uh-oh all day long.  We'll see how she does at nap time in a little bit.

I am so excited.  Once this hurdle is jumped we can focus on potty training.  I just asked her if she was going to be a big girl today and use the potty and her eyes got all huge and she shook her head, "no, potty scary," she told me.

Good Job Nora!  The pacifier is much easier to get rid of than the thumb.  My oldest had a pacifier and we just took it away and he was ok with it.  My 7 year old still sucks his thumb and my youngest is 4 and sucks his thumb.  It's not like you can "throw" it away.  My 7 yr. old mostly sucks his thumb when he is sleeping and when he is tired.  We have been trying since he started school to get him to stop but at least he doesn't do it in school.

My youngest was afraid of the potty and one day it just clicked with him.  I was lucky with all of them.
