I took Alyssa to one of her classmate's birthday parties at a local park on Saturday. While it was a kind of strange party, it was a good opportunity for Alyssa to hang out with her friends from school and for me to meet some of the parents.
Anyway, the kids were all eating cake at the picnic table in the party pavilion. I was standing in the back of the pavilion, behind the picnic table talking to one of the parents, and Alyssa was sitting at the table, her back to me.
Well, the cake was one of those pull-apart cupcake varieties, with the globs of icing on top. Alyssa...

It's been a while since I've posted a journal entry. Chalk it up to lack of motivation to write one and/or a very hectic work schedule and personal life. Whatever the reason, today was a very important milestone in my life that deserves proper recognition: My daughter's first day of school.
I knew this day would come eventually, of course. I mean, did I really expect to hold onto that 5 pound, 6 ounce, tiny little baby forever? Even so, when did the Earth get sucked into that worm hole that made three years pass so quickly?
It's a bittersweet moment for sure. Most of me is really...

Well, we just returned from our weekend trip at Disney, where we celebrated my birthday, aka "Laurakah!" Wow! What a great time!
I was hoping to get to the Magic Kingdom around 11:00 am, but we had a couple of "snags" before we even left the house. For one thing, we had to take two vehicles because Alex had to return home on Saturday morning so he could attend a funeral. (His good friend's mother passed away, and he really needed to be there for his buddy.) So I drove Alyssa in my car, while Alex followed in his. Not the most gas-efficient method of transportation, but you do...

I need to get a "No Soliciting" sign for my door, to keep these random creepy lawn and tree service guys away. They scope out my neighborhood, staring at the various trees in people's yards, then, if they determine that one is dead, leaning, or "about to fall on something," they stop their beat up truck and homemade trailer, walk up to the door, and ring the doorbell multiple times and/or bang on the door.
Working from home with a toddler, I set my alarm and lock my doors as a precaution. There is no WAY I am just going to open my front door to a stranger! Well, a few...

Yeah, I know - I'm spoiled for being a passholder and living close enough to visit Walt Disney World like every other month. This trip, though, counted as our annual Christmas time getaway, so we hooked up the camper and headed to Fort Wilderness.
Sunday: A Rather Wet Spectacle
We arrived Sunday afternoon, and set up at our camp site in Fort Wilderness. It was a pretty good site, located close to the marina, where the ferry to Magic Kingdom departs. Anyway, it rained most of the trip to Disney, then sporadically throughout the night. Sigh!
Extra Magic Hours were from 8-11pm at...

For hubby's 40th birthday, I got him a Richard Petty [Rookie] Driving Experience at the Walt Disney World Speedway. Since I knew Alyssa would get restless if she had to stay in the pits the entire 3-5 hours, we took a quick pic with one of the race cars, wished Alex good luck, then took Alyssa to Epcot to play while hubby satisfied his need for speed.
The Christmas decorations are already starting to appear in Epcot. The huge tree in front of the World Showcase looks great!
Of course, we had to visit Mexico to ride Alyssa's favorite, the "Where's Donald" boat ride...TWICE! After the...

Just wanted to share a quick video of my 2-year-old's latest obsession. After her drum solo in the store, she decided to give vocals a try. It's hard to hear her, but at one point she sings "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" during "Eye of the Tiger." LOL!
This kid has music in her blood!

She's fine and safe in her bed now, but OMG! My heart is STILL racing from the episode!
Hubby plays tennis Wednesday nights, so when Alyssa got up from her nap, I packed her up and took her to a country diner for dinner. We ate dinner, then like we usually do when we go to this particular restaurant, we walked across the parking lot to the dollar store.
In the dollar store, Alyssa found a ball she liked. She is very good about staying with me, and I am good about keeping her in my eyesight at all times. Or so I thought! In a single second when my back was turned, Alyssa wandered off!
I...

Wow, what a great weekend! We took Friday off, headed to Disney World, and just returned Sunday evening. I'm really tired, but I have to say that was a GREAT weekend!
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
This was the first time we've ever been to the Halloween party, and it was AWESOME! Alyssa was Tinkerbell, so I created a Wendy Darling costume from Thrift Store finds, and Alex was a sport and dressed as Peter Pan. The weather was great! Warm, but not hot, and our costumes were light enough to keep us comfortable through the night.
Crowds were pretty minimal, and lines were...

Last year, I posted two journal entries, My Mom Is A Bully, and My Mom Is (Still) A Bully, in which I described my mom's overbearing means of contradicting my parenting style. Essentially, I am perpetually 8 years old to her and have no brains, no skills, and no business raising a child. To hear her talk sometimes, it's a wonder Alyssa has survived these last 2-1/2 years with hubby and me as her parents!
Well, I thought everything had finally settled down, and that she was finally going to just back off. Uh-uh! The Bully struck again the other night, but this time, the attack was...
