As most of you already know, I volunteer for a large pit bull rescue
and these dogs have a very special place in my heart and in my life. I
have been aware for several years of a wonderful organization called Pinups for Pitbulls,
a non-for profit group that puts out a calendar once a year featuring
lovely pin-up models posing with pitbulls and donates all proceeds to
pit bull rescues and dogs in need. Last year they were able to donate
almost $20,000 to pit bull related organizations! I had
dreamed for a few years of possibly submitting a picture for this
calendar,...

Michael Vick to do BET TV series; QB wants to 'change the perception of me'Michael Vick has reached a deal with the BET
network on an eight-part documentary series that will portray the
Eagles QB from his childhood through his prison term and into the
present."I just want people to really get to know me as an individual," Vick told the Los Angeles Times.
"What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being.
I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened.
But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."There's
no word on how...

As in the box that others, including US, stuff ourselves into as parents. A simple statement but a hard thing to accomplish.I'm reading a book right now about children with special needs. I think I've been saying that exact statement for about two years, well ever since I found out that my son had autism at least. But this book in particular is really interesting to me. In addition to discussing the stereotyping of individuals with special needs by the media, this book discusses the stereotyping of parents of special needs indvidiuals by the media as well. It...

I will admit that I hold nothing back when it comes to our food shopping.Despite the fact that we live in a country where you are pretty much punished, financially and otherwise, for eating healthy, I will splurge on whatever I feel like we need and whatever is the best quality when it comes to our groceries. A lot of folks don't bat an eye at shelling out hundreds per month for health insurance--to me, what we eat falls into that same category. The foods that you put into your body are one of the biggest determining factors in your health as far as I'm concerned. Not to get...

I'm trying to beat that through my own thick head tonight. But there really shouldn't be. I read a post tonight from an anonymous mom who wants to lose weight and it made me reflect on my OWN situation. I think she posted anonymously because she was embarrassed about her weight and thought someone might put her down; I think that she should be proud of wanting to better herself. I am currently trying to quit smoking, but I haven't told anyone outside of my close knit group of friends because I was embarrassed to admit that I smoke in the first place. So while I was...

..is really what I think when I hear people going bananas about Obama's speech being broadcast. I remember specifically watching several of George Bush's speeches when I was in school. I didn't agree with him then and I don't agree with him now. My point being that watching him speak didn't "brainwash" me into thinking anything and it didn't even come close to causing me to change my political views. But I'm glad that I watched it; it helped me to learn about politics and to learn about myself in regards to my opinions and viewpoints. It was also appropriate...
