Food splurges?

Comments (8)
I will admit that I hold nothing back when it comes to our food shopping.Despite the fact that we live in a country where you are pretty much punished, financially and otherwise, for eating healthy, I will splurge on whatever I feel like we need and whatever is the best quality when it comes to our groceries.  A lot of folks don't bat an eye at shelling out hundreds per month for health insurance--to me, what we eat falls into that same category.  The foods that you put into your body are one of the biggest determining factors in your health as far as I'm concerned. Not to get...

There shouldn't be so much guilt in the struggle.

I'm trying to beat that through my own thick head tonight. But there really shouldn't be.  I read a post tonight from an anonymous mom who wants to lose weight and it made me reflect on my OWN situation.  I think she posted anonymously because she was embarrassed about her weight and thought someone might put her down; I think that she should be proud of wanting to better herself.  I am currently trying to quit smoking, but I haven't told anyone outside of my close knit group of friends because I was embarrassed to admit that I smoke in the first place.  So while I was...

History and current events have no business in our schools...

..is really what I think when I hear people going bananas about Obama's speech being broadcast.  I remember specifically watching several of George Bush's speeches when I was in school.  I didn't agree with him then and I don't agree with him now.  My point being that watching him speak didn't "brainwash" me into thinking anything and it didn't even come close to causing me to change my political views.  But I'm glad that I watched it; it helped me to learn about politics and to learn about myself in regards to my opinions and viewpoints.  It was also appropriate...

Yet another reason to ditch the junk.

We already knew that junk food was bad for our bodies but it's bad for our brains too!Do High-fat Diets Make Us Stupid And Lazy? Physical And Memory Abilities Of Rats Affected After 9 Days ScienceDaily (Aug. 11, 2009) — Rats fed a high-fat diet show a stark reduction in their physical endurance and a decline in their cognitive ability after just nine days, a study by Oxford University researchers has shown. The research, funded by the British Heart Foundation and published in the FASEB Journal, may have implications not only for those...

Allergy season..mother nature's bitchslap.

I have reached the conclusion that allergy season is completely and totally unfair.Ya know when your kids have a cold and they're way too stuffy to sleep BUT they're also sick and their body is CRAVING sleep so it kind of balances out, at least a little?  No such luck with allergy season.  Oh noooo.  What you end up with is a child who is so stuffed up that he can hardly breathe (let alone sleep) but doesn't really feel sick so is pretty okay with the whole idea of never sleeping again.  EVER.  Why sleep when you can... watch Wow Wow Wubzy at 4 AM?  Nevermind...

The REAL truth about milk.

Comments (46)
I just can't resist refuting inaccurate "facts".  It's like trying not to itch a mosquito bite.  Here are some facts that I believe everyone has the right to know; what they choose to do about it is up to them.  And may I add that what they choose to do is none of my business...I'm not in any way looking to slam people who drink milk.  As I said above, I just feel that everyone deserves to know the facts so they are then enabled to make informed choices, whether that choice goes one way or the other.Oh, and if you don't like the information that you're about to...

I want to freeze time, right this minute.

I can't believe that my little boy is starting school on Monday.  As excited as I am that he has the opportunity to experience this program, I am so full of dread at the same time.  So much so that I really haven't even been thinking about it very much but I'm realizing that I can't do that for very much longer. With very rare exception, Brody hasn't spent a day away from home (or from me) in his entire life.  I can't believe that we won't be spending our mornings here anymore, eating breakfast together and running around the house playing.  I'm scared to have to worry...

I had a proud mama day. :)

My family NEVER goes out to eat.  Ever.  Not only because we can't afford it usually but because at most restaurants there is literally nothing that we can eat.  But I finally found a wonderful vegan restaurant here in Kansas City called Eden Alley and today we all went for lunch with my mom and my grandma.  Brody did SUCH a good job!  I was so proud of him.  He didn't fuss at all walking into the restaurant (he normally does because it's a new place with lots of people and noises) and he was excited to sit down at the table.  He munched on the bread and...
