My New Outreach Project!

Comments (2)
I just called DAPI, a local school for pregnant teens and they seemed interesting in me teaching a childbirth education(CBE) course once a month. I offered to volunteer my services for free. The director seemed interested. She had me leave a message for the nurse, whom I assume teaches the CBE courses. Of course my approach is it will make *thier job* easier and save them money. It would be a great way to instill confidence and trust in their bodies, their ability to birth. To normalize birth and help them to prepare for birth. I would give outs handouts on the childbirth process, a few...

Getting Your Name "Out There".

Comments (4)
Hi Ladies! I'm new to photography. I'm enrolled in a local college photography degree program. I plan to specialize in maternity, birth, breastfeeding and newborn photography. I've done one free session. I have another maternity session coming up, it's not free but very "low cost".  I have another "low cost" maternity and newborn sessions in December. I was thinking of way to get my name out there. I know some people hold free sessions. I was thinking of contacting the free standing the birth center I went to and put up an "ad" on their board in their office advertising a...

How to Make Nourishing Herbal Infusions

Comments (3)
For those who are drinking red raspberry leaf (RRL), nettle, dandelion and other herbal teas. Read more about the benefits of drinking herbal teas HERE An infusion is a large amount of herb brewed for a long time. Typically, one ounce by weight (about a cup by volume) of dried herb is placed in a quart jar which is then filled to the top with boiling water, tightly lidded and allowed to steep for 4-10 hours. After straining, a cup or more is consumed, and the remainder chilled to slow spoilage. Drinking 2-4 cups a day is usual. Since the minerals and other phytochemicals in...

Delaware Doula Meeting

Be the first to comment
We had our first "Delaware Doula's Meeting" on July 18th, Saturday in Newark Delaware.  We had 9 doulas present represented from Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.  We played "Birth Bingo" an ice breaker game so we could get to know one another. The doulas who attended the most births, who had been a doula the longest and who had the most children received a prize for their achievements! We discussed having monthly meetings. Alternating the meetings from northern Delaware to central Delaware. I also shared my ideas with my sister doulas to get feedback from them. My ideas were...

How the United States Ranks

Comments (6)
HOW THE UNITED STATES RANKSThere are precious few situations in life where the cheaper alternatives is also the better alternative - and maternity care is one. If we eradicated the unjustified obstetric monopoly in the United States, with its extreme medicalization of birth, and replace it with a  humanized maternity care, we can vastly improve the care of women and babies, lower death rates for both women and babies, and save vast sums of money at the same time.  A few facts:  Percentage of gross national product spent on health care 1966: 6 percent 1992: 12...

Getting all my equipment ready.  Cleaning placenta Notice the long cord? Placenta Love. Later I cut the cord in half, formed it into 2 hearts and dehydrated it so Meghan could keep it as a keepsake. About Midwives and Doulas
