1. I learned that achieving a goal is a process. You have to chip away at it day after day.
2. I learned how good it feels to feel strong.
3. I learned that you don't have to look like what you think a triathlete should look like in order to be one.
4. I learned that if you're not having fun, you might as well go home and drink a warm soda.
5. I learned not to make excuses.
6. I learned that when you do something you'v

This is not a tongue-in-cheek little thing any more. I am DEAD SERIOUS. This is to motivate you.
So sit back and allow yourself to be motivated. Quit playing the damn laundry game, we all have enough real laundry to do, and make yourself feel good.
I am no different than you. Last night I polished off half a pan of brownies, I yell at my kids, and I struggle to maintain my sanity and composure when I am confronted with YET ANOTHER sink full of dirty dishes.
But I have done something, twice, that I never ever thought I would do, and that is complete a...

August 2, 2008, Durango, CO-With a final effort coming up the hill, Kate crossed the finish line of the Durango Sports and Rec Sprint Triathlon, completing her second sprint-distance triathlon. Daniel was waiting at the finish line for her with a cold bottle of water, having completed the race a while earlier. It was Daniel's first time finishing a triathlon.
The sprint-distance triathlon consists of a 500-meter swim, a 13-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile run. Kate has been training since February under the guidance of her boss and his wife, Certified Fitness God and...

This hopefully will be the final post about my nephew. It's because I want to talk about him becoming mine.
When he'd come to stay with us when we were engaged and first got married, I'd dread it. Morgan was a kid who was out of control, it seemed to me, didn't know how to be part of a group, didn't know how to accept a a no answer. Now I, and you too, know why.
Now I want to keep him with all my heart. I want him to be at our house all the time, including all holidays. I want to feed him and guide him and appreciate his creativity and help him...

This last year with Morgan was tough. It was just a tough year all around. I didn't really get much chance to get to know him. I know that now that I've spent a great deal of time with him this summer.
I had a brand new baby in September, I had to return to my full-time teaching job after five weeks, I had to take an online class in the fall in order to get approval for an alternative teaching license, I had to be junior class sponsor (other teachers had talked about this as an activity that was not an acceptable alternative to poking sharp sticks in their eyes and...

Rignt now I am parenting my nephew. He has been living with us for over a year now, and I've included him in my kids on my profile page. I treat him no differently than any of my other children, I hope, at least I try.
Lately I've been noticing some changes in him that are good, that are typical of his age, but I am also feeling the need to process my relationship with him because it is so much more complicated than that with my other children, and I feel as though I am sailing uncharted waters with him.
With my other two, they were conceived and born of me, and I know them...

I love this theme! I think I've done some interesting things, and I also love the list format. 1. I've been to Maputo, Mozambique (East Africa) to teach well drilling. My fiance had done that in parts of the world many times and this was my first time going, too.2. I've lived in eight different states: New York, Wyoming, Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Oregon, and Colorado. In that order.3. I've worked on a piece of weaving while listening to Rush.4. I spent one summer in Austria and one fall semester in Italy. 5. I recently...

Most of you know I'm a crafty sort of person--as in, likes to make stuff, not plot--and so OF COURSE as soon as my son got old enough to have one, he now has a craft box. I'm so excited about it and just have to tell you. I'm not doing so to say what a fantastic mom I am, it's just because I have a whole room that could be considered my Craft Box and it is stuffed. Having a whole room qualifies me as Certifiable. No wonder my three-year-old son walks around in public with marker marks all over his arms and legs.Actually it's a good excuse to...

Life is Good but Challenging. Here's why:1. Andrew is 3. He hides under his covers from the monsters every night. He plays that game, I want it, no I don't, I want it, no I don't. He's perfected the art of whining--you gals should hear him, hoo boy. He plays with his baby sister soooo nicely!! He gives hugs and kisses and loves to play in his swimming pool and help me bake, we are starting to have to give the bread away or put it in the freezer. 2. Chloe is learning to crawl. She gets frustrated but keeps...
