With my dad being born in 1930, I was exposed to the genre of Big Band music at a very early age. It was not until I became a member in our high school band, where I played the sax, that I really began to appreciate & love Big Band music. The sound of this music always brings back memories of my dad. I can remember hearing "Little Brown Jug", "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree", "Moonlight Serenade", "In the Mood", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", and many others. Although I was aware of other Big Bands, such as Count Basie, Lous Armstrong & Benny Goodman, I was made keenly aware of Glenn...

My love of Dr. Hook started as probably most of the "diehard" Hook fans started.. with "Sylvia's Mother".. "Sylvia's Mother" was Dr. Hook's first #1 hit and the song that was responsible for them skyrocketing to fame.. Many hits & years later, Dr. Hook is no more.. waaahhhh.. The lead singer, Dennis Locorriere, has in the past couple of years, toured under his name and released solos.. He still has an awesome voice! Ray Sawyer, vocals & lead guitar, also has used Dr. Hook's name in performances, though he's had to receive license from Locorriere to do so.. Some facts about Dr....

There is a legend
that at the time of the Crucifixion
the dogwood had been the size of the oak
and other forest trees.
So firm and strong was the tree
that it was chosen as the timber of the cross.
To be used thus for such a cruel purpose
greatly distressed the tree,
and Jesus, nailed upon it, sensed this,
and in His gentle pity
for all sorrow and suffering said to it,
"Because of your regret
and pity for My suffering,
never again shall the dogwood tree
grow large enough to be used as a cross.
Henceforth it shall be
slender and bent and twisted,
and its blossoms

If you've visited my page this week, you'll know it's done to bring awareness to Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). Though the theme of my page will remain the same throughout the month of February, the graphics and background will change weekly in the hopes that CHD Awareness will be on the minds of many. It's meant to inspire, encourage and educate those whose lives have been altered or will be altered by CHD. I've written several journals over the past year and a half on CHD, the number one killer of babies in the United States, and I encourage you to read or review all of them for better...

I wrote this last year and decided to bring it back this year.. My children have decided that this year they don't want presents.. Instead they want to adopt a family in the CICU at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.. So, we're doing as they wish... We're taking the money we would have spent on our children and using it to buy Christmas for a heart child and his family.. Hope you all enjoy and hope this brings to mind for you the true meaning of Christmas! Travel back with me to the year
1999 and the Christmas season.Think of all the people crowding the
malls decked in their seasonal...

I've chosen a "Marine Corps Involvement in the Korean & Veitnam Wars" along with "Freedom is NOT free.. War is NOT pretty" theme. Because November 11th, 2008 is the 11th anniversary of the death of one of the greatest men I ever knew and THE greatest man I've ever had the honor of calling "Daddy", I wanted to pay tribute to him along with other Veterans of Wars.. Although my page does not showcase other branches of the service or other wars, I am deeply grateful and humbled by the dedication, honor and sacrifices ALL military personnel have shown in ALL wars. Daddy was a loving husband,...
